◇◇◇◇
Loa has no memories of their past life.
However, they knew there was someone important to them.
Desperate to meet that important person, Loa ran.
But even though they were a dragon, they were still a baby. Their speed was slow, and they were caught.
Loa didn’t know who the ones who captured them were.
They didn’t understand why they were enduring such cruel treatment.
(Pain, suffering. Loneliness, fear.)
When Loa was crying in pain and sadness, they felt the presence of someone similar to them.
It seemed that Loa and that being were connected by a magical bond, and emotions began flowing in.
The being that resembled Loa seemed to be in great pain.
After being saved by Luria, Loa felt the presence of that being near the lake.
Loa hoped that the being would be saved, just as they were.
So, when that being desperately summoned lightning, Loa helped.
◇◇◇◇
A while after the lightning struck and Sara was paralyzed, near dawn, the being appeared on the surface.
The place where it appeared was precisely the spot where Luria had destroyed the magical circuit after removing the giant stone.
A crack had appeared in the space where the magical circuit had been sealed when Luria destroyed it.
The center of that crack was where the being appeared.
The being interfered with the outside from within the crack and struck lightning, finally breaking the barrier.
When the lightning struck, a small being, resembling Loa, helped them.
Thanks to that, they were able to get outside.
“Bu-bo-bo-e-me-o-me-o!”
The being that emerged on the surface took a deep breath.
Their body was covered in wounds, causing great pain, but they were happy to have made it to the surface.
The heavy rain hitting their body felt pleasant. It was cold but not uncomfortable.
(…The presence of humans.)
The being moved, seemingly drawn to the presence of many humans.
Dragging their decaying, cursed body, they headed toward a village.
Long ago, a powerful curse user was defeated in this area.
The curse user, on their deathbed, cast a curse on the surrounding land.
The curse that rotted the earth and corrupted the water had been spreading gradually.
For the sake of the human race and other creatures,
That great being absorbed the curse into themselves and sealed it away, saving the world.
(I did my best!)
For hundreds or even thousands of years, the being had struggled for the sake of their beloved human race.
Surely, the humans would praise them.
They might pat their head with warm hands or hug them tightly.
Just that would make the years of suffering feel worthwhile.
The people of that time might be gone, but their descendants must still be around.
The being moved toward a village with many human presences, dragging their corrupted body, releasing a foul odor, and spilling decayed flesh like sludge.
“Bu-be-ne-me-e-ne-bo-e-be (Ah, humans!)”
Upon finding the village, the being rushed toward it in joy.
Humans were warm and kind.
The being had loved humans, and humans had loved them.
◇
The first person to notice the crawling being was a hardworking villager who had started their work just before dawn.
Thanks to Luria, the waterway had been opened, and the spirit’s rain had fallen.
The villager was working hard to make up for lost time in the farming tasks, not allowing themselves any rest.
“Bu-bo-e-me-e-ee-ne-be-ne-ee-ah!”
“Hi-hee-ii-ii-ii, a-a monster!”
Seeing the crawling being with a horrific voice, the villager panicked and fled.
The being, having been drenched in curses for a long time, still carried the heavy curse even after emerging to the surface.
Their form resembled wriggling sludge.
They scattered the smell of rotting flesh and filth and dropped skin that looked like sludge.
It was no wonder the villager recognized them as a horrible monster.
“Bu-be-ge-ne-be-en-be (Why are you running away?)”
Originally, the being had high intelligence.
However, the long years of pain and curses had regressed them into a childlike state.
They didn’t even notice their condition or that they couldn’t speak human words.
“Bo-be-ne-e-en-be-ge-ge-ee (Wait, wait!)”
Innocently chasing after the villagers, the being was suddenly surrounded by fire magic cast by a servant of a noble family staying in the village.
“Gyue-ge-e-gue-e-e-e-ghu-ghu-e-e (It’s hot, it’s hot!)”
The being, confused by the sudden attack, fled in panic.
They didn’t understand why they were being persecuted.
In sadness and pain, they ran, shedding filthy, disgusting tears like sludge.
