The first to go was Inuo Awa. He was a rather unremarkable student, never one to stand out or assert himself. He was low in the class hierarchy, though not quite as low as I was.
“Hold out your left hand and show me the back,” commanded the red-haired goddess.
At her prompting, Awa extended his left hand. The red-haired goddess touched the back of his hand for a couple of seconds.
“That should do it. Now, touch the back of your left hand with your right hand and say, ‘Status Open.'”
“Y-yes! Status Open!”
As soon as Awa Inuo spoke the words, a hologram appeared. From the back row, I couldn’t make out the details, but there seemed to be some kind of information displayed.
“Your rank is ‘A,’ your attribute is ‘Dark,’ and your blessing is ‘Dark Hero.’ An ‘A’ right off the bat—very promising. Hehe.”
I couldn’t see Awa’s face, but his back was practically radiating joy.
“I’ll explain your status. I’ll only say this once, so listen carefully.”
The blonde goddess began to explain:
“There are seven ranks in total: S, A, B, C, D, E, and F, in descending order. Your rank affects your basic abilities and growth rate when leveling up.
“Attributes include Fire, Water, Wind, Earth, Lightning, Light, Darkness, Space, Time, War, Magic, Technique, and a few special attributes.
“Blessings are similar to job classes and vary widely from person to person. For reincarnators like us, blessings can include titles like ‘Hero of [something],’ ‘Sage of [something],’ or ‘Saint of [something],’ among many others.
“Additionally, each blessing comes with skills. Awa Inuo’s ‘Dark Hero’ blessing grants him five initial skills: ‘Dark Bind’ (binding), ‘Dark Slash’ (dark blade), ‘Dark Lore’ (weakening), ‘Dark Nightmare,’ and ‘Dark Strength’ (enhancement).
“The number of skills varies randomly—some people start with over ten, while others might have only one.”
Finally, she explained our abilities: “Life,” “Stamina,” and “Mana.” Life represents vitality, Stamina is endurance, and Mana indicates magical power. Of course, the more you have, the better.
“Oh, wonderful! Your rank is ‘S,’ your attribute is ‘Light,’ and your blessing is ‘Hero of Holy Light!'”
Yuta Sagami hit the jackpot today. I can’t help but feel a bit resentful, but some people just have it all, I guess.
“Another ‘S’! Your rank is also ‘S,’ your attribute is ‘Light,’ and your blessing is ‘Saint of Compassion.'”
It was Mirei Katsura, one of the top three beauties in the school. She’s the vice president of the student council, always caring and approachable. She’s never called me parentless or looked at me with disdain.
The process moved quickly.
Ken Ishiba was ranked ‘C,’ with the Fire attribute and the blessing of ‘Warrior of Flame.’ Plenty of classmates probably thought his rank should’ve been lower, including me, of course.
By now, there were only three students left, including me.
Most ranks fell between ‘B’ and ‘D.’ A few were ‘E,’ but there hadn’t been any ‘F’ ranks.
