“Hmm, it’s finally quieted down. And just to mention it, I’m a bit special. I can completely ignore complaints from nobles like count or Marquess families. In fact, I hear there were nearly ten complaints yesterday, but they were all dismissed.”
“What!?”
The brat shows a look of astonishment, and the surrounding students start murmuring. Well, nobody would expect a temporary teacher to have such authority.
“I’ll be staying at this academy for at least a year, so you’d better give up and study seriously for the next year.”
“You damn brat!”
The brat curses. Of course, I have to deal with this much, or else he’ll disrupt the class again and inconvenience the other students.
I don’t care if some of them aren’t motivated to study, but I won’t allow anyone to disturb the ones who are trying.
“By the way, you have talent in magic, so why don’t you study it more seriously? Yesterday, I saw students from three classes in the same grade, and even among them, your magic ability was among the top.”
“Ha, of course! I’m from a count’s family—”
“I don’t care about your status. It’s true that higher-ranked individuals have more financial freedom and an easier environment to study magic, but beyond that, it all comes down to individual talent and effort. The fact that you can use magic like this means you must have put in some effort since you were a child.”
“…………”
“How you use your talent and effort from here on is up to you. This goes for everyone, but you should realize how fortunate you are to even be in an environment where you can learn magic. Have you ever thought about how many people want to study magic but can’t?”
Fortunately, I wasn’t born a noble, but I came from a normal family, which allowed me to enroll in this academy as a scholarship student with tuition waivers. However, the truth is that in this world, there are far more people who have to work every day just to survive.
I want my students to understand, even if just a little, that there are many people who can’t learn, even if they want to.
“Also, your parents paid quite a lot of money to get you into this academy. Of course, it’s important to play with friends and deepen relationships, but at least try to study enough to justify your tuition. And don’t you find studying magic fun?”
“…Is it fun?”
Cyril answers my question.
“Yeah. It was the same for me. When I first activated magic, I was really happy. Using magic power to create a spell and seeing it actually work—I’ll never forget that feeling. And the time spent learning new spells and realizing that magic can be improved through trial and error was very enjoyable. To experience that over and over, I’ve kept studying magic all this time.”
It’s similar to the feeling of first understanding arithmetic in my previous world. The joy of discovering mathematical formulas and using them to find the right answers, or the thrill of seeing a desired reaction in a science experiment. And with magic, actual phenomena like fire or water appear, which makes it even more thrilling.
Maybe it’s because I grew up in a world without magic, but as someone who was originally in a research field, I became more deeply involved in magic than the average person.
“Well, whether magic is fun or not depends on the person, so I’m not going to force anyone to study it. But if you try to hinder those who want to enjoy learning magic, I will remove you without hesitation, so keep that in mind. Sorry for the lecture. Now, let’s resume the class.”
The three of them, just by being able to use magic, already have plenty of talent, so I hope they can remember the joy of learning magic.
“Now then, today I want to talk about something I’ve been thinking about since yesterday’s mock battle. The importance of non-incantation magic and chantless magic…”
“…That’s all for today’s class. For the next lesson, we’ll meet at the training grounds. We’ll be covering not just mock battles like last time, but also practical magic that’s useful in real combat. It won’t be in this classroom, so be sure to remember that. Class dismissed.”
After finishing the lesson, I leave the classroom.
At least after that, the three of them didn’t disrupt the class again. I don’t know if they were listening seriously, but as long as they aren’t disturbing the other students, that’s good enough.
I’m not going to force anyone to learn magic, but I’d like them to understand the joy of it if possible. As I said before, those three have talent, so there’s potential in them.
“Professor Geek, may I have a moment?”
“Ah, Professor Geek!”
As I’m leaving the classroom, two students call out to me.
It’s Cyril and Melia. I’ve spoken to Cyril a few times, but this is the first time Melia has approached me. She’s a short-haired girl with a bluish tint and is shorter than Cyril.
She’s also a scholarship student from a commoner background, just like I was. In this academy, outstanding commoners are invited as scholarship students to study magic without burdening their families with tuition fees.
