Chapter 6

First skill

Since I couldn’t put things out in the hallway to clean, the key to organizing the room was the closet.

I sorted out what I could throw away and made sure at least the tatami mat was visible.

“…Each box has different contents…”

I casually peeked into a half-open box and quickly closed it. Inside were new, bagged women’s underwear.

Did Akizuki-san leave these here? I’m not sure, but I can’t just leave them in this room, so I’ll have to ask her about it later.

(Why not just put them in a dresser… Maybe they’re extra stock. Anyway, I can’t let this distract me.)

I swept the room lightly with the broom and gathered the dust into the provided garbage bag. It wasn’t too dirty, likely because multiple people used the room.

The window hadn’t been opened in a while, but the lock was easy to open. When I opened it, I saw a shed-like structure surrounded by bamboo.

(What is that… This place just keeps getting more curious.)

Since staring at it wouldn’t solve anything, I closed the window and turned to the closet. When I tried to open it, something seemed to be stuck.

“Grrr… Ugh…!”

I let out an involuntary sound—worried that forcing it might break the door. Just as I was thinking that, the door slid open all at once. And everything inside fell on top of me.

(This is bad…!!)

I thought it was stuffed with bedding, but it wasn’t. The closet was divided into upper and lower sections, and the upper section was packed with heavy-looking cardboard boxes.

Stopping them with my body was impossible—there was no choice but to accept being buried in an avalanche of boxes.

(…?)

I braced myself for impact, but nothing fell.

When I opened my eyes, the large cardboard boxes that should have fallen were unnaturally suspended in mid-air.

A voice echoed in my mind: “Skill ‘Fixation’ activated. The spatial coordinates of the target object are fixed.”

I understood immediately.

“…This is my first skill… ‘Fixation’…!”

When carrying loads, the path is not always smooth, and sometimes you have to travel through rough terrain. In such cases, securing the load to prevent it from falling apart is crucial.

Normally, you would use ropes or something similar, but my ‘Fixation’ skill negates that need. It allows me to fix objects in place without touching them.

(This skill could be incredibly useful… I’ll need to test it more.)

I touched the box that was fixed in place and found that merely touching it didn’t release the fixation. However, when I willed it to move, it did.

I lowered each box to the floor and thought about how to organize the closet. I wanted to replace the cardboard boxes with storage bins.

Mana: 8/10

Looking at my student card, I noticed my mana had decreased slightly. Did using ‘Fixation’ cost 2 points?

I needed to test how long objects remain fixed. I grabbed a cushion and fixed it to the wall—it stayed in place without falling. Leaving it there would help determine if there was a time limit. If there was, I’d need to time it with a timer.

(Using this skill again costs another 2 points. Earlier, I fixed multiple boxes at once, so… wait.)

Mana: 7/10

This time it cost 1 point. So, fixing multiple objects at once must have cost 2 points.

The dream of a dungeon explorer is to bring back all the found treasures. A little while ago, dungeons suddenly appeared all over Japan. Simultaneously, humans awakened to their individual 'classes,' and 'explorers' who ventured into dungeons teeming with monsters to harvest treasures became a profession. "Dungeon exploration" was added to the curriculum of students, and "explorer training schools" with dungeons on their premises were established nationwide. "Tsukasa Fujiwara," a new student at the academy, recalls on the day of the entrance ceremony that he had a past life and encountered a goddess due to a tragic death in another world, wishing for reincarnation. "I want to eliminate the problem of being a baggage carrier when reincarnated." In response to that wish, the goddess had given him a certain skill at the time of reincarnation. However, since this skill couldn't be recognized by those around him, Tsukasa found himself being underestimated from the beginning of his school life—.
