On Saturday, I woke up at 6 in the morning.
The thought of conquering a dungeon in the real world made my sleepiness vanish in an instant.
As I walked to the kitchen, I found Karin already awake.
“Huh, Naoki, are you going somewhere?”
“Yeah, well…”
Not wanting to worry Karin, I mumbled my response.
In situations like this, Karin never pries too much into where I’m going. She knows I don’t like it.
“At least have some breakfast before you go.”
“Alright, I guess I will.”
I ate the scrambled eggs and coffee Karin prepared. Not just the scrambled eggs, but even the coffee tasted different. It was incredibly delicious.
Karin’s blessing [Housekeeping] is something else.
After returning to my place, I got ready to head out. By the way, both of my parents have been working overseas since last year. Now, I live alone at home.
I put on cheap jogging clothes and sneakers, ready to get dirty. On my back, I carried the iron sword Kikuchi left behind and a backpack. As long as I have the Hunter Association’s permit, carrying a sword doesn’t violate the Swords and Firearms Control Law.
I locked up the house and set off.
In my backpack, I had a bottle of water and some rice balls I bought at a convenience store along the way.
I also thought about buying potions, so I decided to stop by the Hunter Association’s shop.
When I arrived at the Hunter Association, it wasn’t open yet. Apparently, I was too early. It opens at 9, so I waited for about ten minutes before entering through the opened doors.
At the shop, alongside various low-level weapons, armor, and items, there were recovery potions displayed in a glass case.
Recovery Potion (Weak) – 450,000 yen
Recovery Potion (Medium) – 3,500,000 yen
Unbelievably expensive.
There’s no way I could afford that with a high school student’s allowance.
I don’t know how it works, but since injuries heal instantly, people with money would probably pay that much. Especially women who have suffered deep wounds requiring stitches from accidents, as there would be no scars left.
But in games, as you level up, you end up with hundreds of Recovery Potions (Weak) and (Medium). If you can defeat high-level monsters, you should be able to get more valuable magic stones and other expensive equipment.
The Hunter Association seems to buy items at about 60% of their selling price. As more hunters level up and drop items flood the market, the prices of low-level drops will likely plummet. However, drops from the hunting grounds of top-level hunters are limited in number and should sell for a high price. Selling such drops could earn you money that an average high school student could never dream of.
If that happens, I could buy a top-of-the-line gaming PC. I could also buy the latest game consoles and games without a second thought.
I might even be able to buy a high-displacement motorcycle. I could even give something to Karin, who’s always been so kind to me.
Yeah, I’ll do my best.
This time, I gave up on buying recovery potions and headed to the dungeon I visited yesterday.
Perhaps because it was early in the morning, there was no one in front of the dungeon. It seems there are still few hunters, maybe because the dungeon hasn’t been around for long. Well, dungeons have been appearing all over Japan in large numbers.
Since it was early, I didn’t have to worry about running into Kikuchi or Yokota. Those guys are always late risers. Especially on days off from school, they probably won’t get up until after noon.
There’s no staff in charge at the dungeon entrance for now.
At some point, there might be some restrictions on entry, but for now, as long as you have a permit, you can enter the dungeon freely.
I entered the dungeon from the entrance.
A little way in, I had something I wanted to try. I originally planned to buy it deeper inside where it wouldn’t be noticeable, but since it was early, there were no other hunters around.
I opened the status window and navigated to the DLC window.
☆――――――――――――――――――――☆
Paid DLC: Beginner’s Mithril Sword – 1,500 yen
☆――――――――――――――――――――☆
So… can I really buy it?
Even though it’s for beginners, it’s still a paid DLC. The effect when equipped is significant. If I can buy it, it should give me a huge advantage in combat. Even though it’s for beginners, the dungeon has only been around for less than a month. There probably aren’t many people in Japan who have a weapon of this level.
Yeah, let’s give it a try.
