The time for the harvest festival has come once again.
I will harvest the crops I’ve been growing, and they will be delivered to me.
“Evilham-sama! Please!”
Receiving the eager gazes of the monsters, I craft item materials.
“First, I’ll use sugar cane to craft sugar cubes!”
When I crafted the sugar, a white solid object appeared. It’s great that it comes in a manageable form.
If it had been powdered sugar, I would have needed some sort of container. Containers are also precious in this dungeon. Right now, I only have one spare container.
A bottle stolen from humans. It was probably used for some kind of food, but I can’t recall what was inside it anymore.
“Oh! Is this the sweet white thing that humans had?”
“Evilham-sama! I want to eat this!”
The monsters drool. However, this isn’t the main event.
“It’s sweet. You guys, what I’m about to make is even more amazing. Craft blueberry, sugar cubes, and an empty bottle! Come forth! Blueberry jam!”
Blueberry jam was generated in the bottle.
“O-oh! What is this…! What on earth is it, Evilham-sama!”
“You know the sweetness of sugar, right? This is made by adding sugar to blueberries.”
I answered proudly, and the monsters exclaimed, “Oh!”
“Combining sweet things makes for deliciousness, doesn’t it?”
“You spread this on bread. Then…”
I tried putting the jam on the bread.
Wow! It was so delicious that I lost my words. I had been living on tasteless bread all this time.
Now that I’ve acquired the moisture of jam, vitality surged within me.
It felt as if sugar was being absorbed into my body, like water seeping into the desert. I felt like I could eat this infinitely.
I never expected that the addition of sweetness to the bread could have such destructive power. Having been deprived of sugar for so long, I thought I might faint from the deliciousness.
It would be sinful to hog such delicious bread all to myself. I offered the jam-filled bread to the monsters.
“You guys should try it too. It’ll make you fly, right?”
“Y-yes!”
The monsters took a bite of the bread. At that moment, their cheeks relaxed, and smiles began to spread.
Some even started to cry, not just from joy but from their tear ducts loosening.
“Evilham-sama! It’s delicious! Too delicious! What is this?!”
“To know something so delicious, you really are amazing, Evilham-sama!”
The monsters praised me wholeheartedly. What is this? It feels good. I’m just using my basic game knowledge.
Before my reincarnation, I had never grown blueberries nor made jam. I only knew how to do it from games.
Yet, to be praised like this feels too good!
“Hahaha. Don’t praise me so much. I just wanted you guys to eat something delicious.”
“Evilham-sama! I will follow you for life!”
I successfully boosted the loyalty of the monsters by feeding them. Just when I was completely getting carried away, Littleham came rushing in.
“Evilham-sama! This is terrible! Terrible! Terrible!”
“What happened, Littleham? Do you want to eat jam bread too?”
“Oh, I’ll have that later… But more importantly…! We have an intruder! A human has entered this dungeon!”
“W-what?!”
Oh no. A hero? I never expected them to come so soon.
What should I do? I haven’t even thought of a strategy to intercept them.
I broke out in a cold sweat. However, the monsters were quite carefree.
“Hahaha, Evilham is being too dramatic. Those humans from the village can’t possibly compete with us.”
“What a reckless fool to come here.”
Stop it. Don’t jinx it! That’s something only someone about to die would say. You guys are the reckless ones.
“Littleham, how strong are humans?”
“Well, I’m not sure yet. The monsters are too busy celebrating the harvest festival and are ignoring the humans.”
What are they doing…?
“Well, well, Evilham-sama. We’ll take care of the humans.”
One of the goblins stood up, wielding a club, and set off.
If they’re a hero, that’s basically going to their death.
Just as the goblin was about to leave the room, we heard a loud commotion.
“Where is Evilham?!”
Whoa, I could clearly hear a human voice. The guards aren’t doing their jobs properly and are heading straight to the boss room.
“Evilham! Prepare yourself!”
A strong adult man holding a sickle appeared. He had bandages wrapped around his left hand, and his clothes were tattered and pitiful.
I recognized this human—
“Who?”
I had no idea. Seriously, who is this guy?
“I am Jeet from the village of Sashou, which you raided!”
No, who are you? Even someone who has played the game extensively like me doesn’t know this character. He’s clearly a mob character.
“I have trained to defeat you! Take this!”
Jeet swung his sickle down at me. However…
“Hey!”
A goblin struck Jeet on the back of the head with a club.
“Ugh!”
Jeet fell to the ground. Getting taken down by a single goblin is ridiculously weak. Is that strong body just for show?
“Evilham-sama, what should we do with him?”
The goblin asked me, clearly feeling proud of his achievement.
“For now, he’s not dead, right?”
I checked on Jeet’s condition. I could feel his pulse when I grabbed his wrist. He’s alive.
“Well, he’s probably just starving too much and got desperate. Let’s feed him something since we’re at it.”
“Eh? This guy tried to take your life, Evilham-sama? You’re giving this guy precious food?”
The goblin seemed dissatisfied. However, I think there are circumstances behind why he tried to take my life.
“In the first place, the reason all of this started was that we attacked their village.”
“But we’re not attacking villages anymore! So for him to come here is just pure spite.”
I can understand the goblin’s point. However…
“The power of resentment is a terrifying thing. Even if we forget, those who were harmed will always remember. Therefore, I don’t mind that I was attacked by him.”
Even actions I took when I didn’t have memories may still be my responsibility. At the very least, I should listen to what he has to say.
After some time passed, Jeet, who had been knocked out, woke up.
“Are you awake?”
“Evilham!”
Jeet looked at me with a resentful gaze. However, he had no weapon since I had taken his sickle away. Perhaps realizing he couldn’t win in that state, he remained quiet.
“Well, first, eat that.”
I pointed to the bread in front of Jeet. He glanced at it and then glared at me again.
“What is the meaning of this?”
“I’m sorry for stealing food from your village until now. This is a token of my apology.”
“Is one piece of bread enough to atone for what you’ve done? Besides, what if this bread is poisoned…?”
“I was in a position to kill you at any time. Why would I bother to poison you?”
Logically, that makes sense. But emotionally, Jeet still couldn’t bring himself to touch the bread.
What a dilemma. I’m completely trying to act out of goodwill. What should I do?
