With my command, stones and arrows were launched.
The peasant soldiers rushed to the barricades, trying to break them down, but they began to fall one after another.
However, bit by bit, the barricades were being destroyed and breached.
The moats, set up in various places, overflowed with corpses, gradually filling in the hollows.
The enemy’s peasant soldiers are moving more sluggishly than I anticipated… Still, they are pushing the peasant soldiers forward to dismantle the barricades.
Are they holding back their mages?
“Erich, I’m counting on you.”
Erich gave a firm nod, then launched a small fireball, striking a wooden crate placed in front of the barricade.
The instant it hit, a deafening sound and shockwave ripped through the area. Those at ground zero were left in a gruesome state, and even those at a distance were crouching in pain.
Based on the experience from the last time we cleared out the remnants, I had improved the gunpowder by mixing in iron fragments, making it similar to a grenade.
Even those who survived the carnage showed hesitation.
Oh? Some of the peasant soldiers are trying to run away.
But blocking their escape stood a lone knight.
The knight cut down the fleeing peasant soldiers head-on.
“Anyone who tries to escape will be cut down at once!”
Seriously… but in this world, this is normal.
The knight not only commands the peasant soldiers but also bears the duty of supervising them and preventing any escapes.
That’s why, typically, a knight can command around 200 people, with 500 being the absolute limit.
In front, they cower at the barricades, arrows, and stones, while behind them, the knight watches over them. I feel a slight sympathy for the peasant soldiers, but I can’t afford to hold back.
The barricades at ground zero were blown away, and through the gap, more of the enemy’s peasant soldiers surged forward.
We’ve used gunpowder and the like, but the enemy shows no signs of using magic.
Do they plan to clear the barricades solely with peasant soldiers? It seems overly extravagant—or rather, a senseless waste. Are they holding back their magic? Or are they too cautious to use it?
While I was mulling this over, they steadily made progress in dismantling the barricades. A hellish scene unfolded outside the castle walls.
Piles of corpses filled the moats, bodies lay slumped against the barricades, and agonized screams pierced the air.
But I won’t look away.
This is the resolve and responsibility of one who has chosen to fight.
