Despite Martina’s misplaced concern, Roland opened his mouth with a wry smile.
“You’re worried about your stamina? Don’t worry, you’ll get used to it eventually. We won’t give you too much work at first, anyway. But more importantly, are you sure you’re okay with continuing the explanation like this? Are you sure you don’t need to take notes?”
Roland asked, expressing concern for that instead. Martina looked up at him with a slightly anxious expression.
“…It’s fine, but should I take notes? Would it make me look unprofessional?”
“No, as long as you can do your job properly, no one’s going to say anything.”
“Then that’s a relief. If it’s just this amount, I don’t think it’ll be a problem to remember. Actually, I never forget anything I hear, read, or see.”
Upon hearing Martina casually say this, Roland furrowed his brow in disbelief.
“Never forget? Are you sure?”
“Yes. That’s how it’s always been.”
Roland hesitated, unsure of how to react to Martina’s confident attitude. If she were a normal new recruit, he would just laugh it off, but these were words from someone who passed the exam with a perfect score.
“…Well, then, could you try this? This is the list of members of the First Knight Order. It includes names, ages, genders, as well as their preferred weapons, magical attributes, and personalities. It would be helpful to memorize this for the job. Well, I can’t remember any of this myself.”
The list was a thick booklet, showing signs of heavy use, reflecting Roland’s seriousness about his work. Martina opened the first page and began to eagerly scan the text with shining eyes.
“There are so many knights here who can use magic!” she exclaimed.
“Yeah, unless they’re exceptionally skilled in combat, having an aptitude for magic is a requirement for joining the order,” Roland explained.
In this country, the probability of someone being born with magical aptitude is said to be about 10%. Those lucky enough to possess this ability, regardless of their social status, can enter magic schools, and from there, they often find positions in important institutions like the knight orders or magical research institutes.
“There are so many different people, it’s fascinating! This person excels with a spear… this one has fire magic, and this one has water magic. Oh, there are women too!”
Martina continued flipping through the pages, reading with interest. After about five pages, Roland called out to her.
“Close it for a moment.”
“Got it.”
“Can I test how much you remember?”
“Of course, go ahead.”
Roland swallowed nervously at Martina’s confident expression and flipped to a random page.
“What’s the name of the First Knight Order’s leader?”
“Cedric Lambert-sama.”
“Preferred weapon and magic attribute. What about their personality?”
“He’s skilled with a sword and has fire magic. He’s very friendly and well-liked by everyone. I’d love to meet him one day.”
“…What about the vice commander’s name and other details?”
“Florent Lavan-sama. He’s skilled with a rapier and has wind magic. It said he’s a very calm person.”
Roland was stunned by how easily Martina recalled everything without missing a beat, but he calmed himself, telling himself that these were the two main people after all.
“…So, you’ve read up to the fifth page, right? How many people with fire magic were there?”
Thinking this would be a tough question for her, Roland asked, only to be surprised when Martina immediately responded.
“Um… one, two, three… six, seven people!”
“Seriously? Okay, then how many people with water magic?”
“Five people.”
“And how many commoners were there?”
“Only one. Their name is Lasha-sama, and they’re good with a sword and like sweets. I also like sweets, so I’d be happy to be friends if I could.”
“…And who likes spicy food?”
“Nicolas-sama! He’s good with a bow and uses light magic. Light magic is pretty rare, so it’s impressive.”
After hearing Martina’s answers, Roland collapsed, holding his head in his hands.
“You’re seriously amazing!”
“Hehe, thank you! This ability hasn’t been very useful until now, so I’m happy it can be useful as a civil servant.”
“No, this is beyond useful!”
With a tired expression, Roland muttered, then, as if realizing the potential of Martina’s ability, piled a bunch of documents onto her desk.
“Alright, Martina’s job for today is to read these as much as you can. I don’t expect you to memorize everything, but even if you can remember most of it, it’ll be a huge help. Tomorrow, we’ll visit the knight order. If you’ve remembered the information, you should be able to bond with them right away.”
Hearing that reading documents was her job for the day, Martina’s eyes lit up with excitement as she eagerly bowed.
“Thank you! I’m so glad to have you as my superior, Roland-san!”
At her earnest words and pure gaze, Roland’s cheeks flushed slightly, but Martina didn’t notice, as her full attention was already on the stack of papers.
“…I might have just gotten an incredible subordinate.”
Roland’s murmured words caused a slight ripple in the atmosphere of the administration office, but no one heard them.
