While teaching two classes, Basic Magic and Defense Magic, the week’s lessons have ended, and it is now the study session after school.
“I’ve hunted monsters in my village before, so I’m not really nervous. I think I’ve grown a bit since coming to this academy, so I’m really looking forward to it!”
“I’m used to fighting monsters in my bodyguard training, so there’s no problem.”
Bern, being a special scholarship student from a village, seems to have experience fighting monsters. In this world, there are many pests like goblins that destroy fields. Goblins don’t breed with humans, but they multiply quickly. Like boars and other pests, they can’t be eaten, so they’re just a nuisance.
Sofia, being a bodyguard, also seems to have extensive experience fighting monsters.
“I’ve already experienced real combat, so I’m more excited than nervous. Plus, with Professor Geek coming with us, I can feel.”
“…………..”
Eliza was only recently attacked by kidnappers. While they weren’t monsters, she did see me fight the assailants up close, so she should be fine against weaker monsters.
…Even so, can’t something be done about how much Eliza trusts me? Cyril always looks at me with a sharp gaze.
I’ve shown everyone large-scale magic in class, but Cyril still doesn’t seem convinced. Eliza seems to think of me as the disciple of the Great Sage Gill, and I can’t explain that to them.
Well, after a week of gathering after school every day for study sessions and chatting, it’s a good thing that everyone has started to talk to Eliza more casually.
“Even though I’m here, don’t let your guard down. No matter how weak a monster is, a surprise attack or a hit to a vital spot can easily kill a human. If you die instantly, recovery magic won’t help.”
“Right, sorry. I’ll make sure not to let my guard down.”
“I’ll focus this time and make sure to protect Her Highness!”
Sophia seems determined to redeem herself after the last failure, but overdoing it can lead to mistakes.
“By the way, we’re going out of the academy for the real combat, right?”
“Yeah, that’s right. I can’t bring monsters into the academy. We’ll use two periods to move to the forest outside the city.”
The real combat will take place in a nearby forest outside the city. It’s not too far from the city, and there shouldn’t be any particularly strong monsters there.
That said, since one period would be wasted on travel time, we plan to use two periods for the Defense Magic class. Since I’m teaching Basic Magic as well, I can be a bit flexible with the scheduling, which helps.
“Along with that, from next week, we’ve managed to reserve the training grounds after school once a week. On those days, this study group will move to the training grounds instead.”
This is the practical training that Bern and Sophiarequested, and we’ve now managed to get a few hours of training time each week. Since outdoor combat training is starting, the training grounds will likely see some demand for safe combat practice.
Some students at this magic academy will need such combat training.
“Yes. I’ll join that as well.”
“I’ll also try to participate as much as I can.”
Bern aspires to be a knight, and Sophiais Eliza’s bodyguard, so they probably want to improve their skills.
“I’m a bit uncertain about it…”
“Hmm, I’m not sure either…”
“In my case, my father might not allow it… I’d love to join, but I might cause trouble for Professor Geek…”
Cyril is studying magical tools, so she doesn’t seem to need combat magic. Melia hasn’t decided what profession she wants in the future, so she’s unsure. Eliza, being the third princess, seems to have other lessons as well.
And even though it’s safe, the country might send me a message forbidding me from teaching Eliza combat magic.
“You don’t need to worry about causing me trouble. If you seriously want to learn, you’re welcome. Well, that’s up to you. After the outdoor training, some students might also want to join.”
…Maybe Gale will join. He always finishes the assignments quickly in practical training and challenges me. Despite his foul mouth and personality, I do respect his guts.
“Oh, right. I had something to give to Eliza and Sofia.”
I’d completely forgotten, but I was planning to give them these things I made over the past few days.
“U-um, this is a bit…”
“P-Professor Geek…?”
“…Giving handcuffs to female students is clearly harassment. Let’s report this.”
“Wait, it’s not for that purpose! See, there’s no lock, and you can take it off right away!”
Oops.
To the three of them, it must look like I’m a dangerous teacher handing out handcuffs to female students.
It’s not like that. These are magic tools I made, modeled after the magic-sealing rings I used before.
