Regarding the Matter of Beautiful Girls Relentlessly Seeking My Body (Experience Points)
Walking Home with Okumura
I walk down the road home with Okumura. In silence. It’s incredibly awkward.
I try my best to start a conversation, but all I get in response is either a “Mm” or a “Mmhmm.”
I may be an introvert, but I’m at least trying. I wish Okumura would put in some effort too, even if she is an introvert herself.
As I give up and stay quiet, I notice Okumura sneaking glances at the bag I’m holding.
“Are you curious about this?”
When I lift the paper bag slightly, Okumura quickly averts her gaze but still asks,
“What did you buy?”
Maybe she’s into tech?
“Uh, it’s called a MateFocus? Some kind of device for VRChat. I’ve been wanting to try VRChat for a while.”
I open the bag and show her the box. Her eyes widen in shock.
“W-Wait, is that a MetaFocus?! And the Pro version?! That’s the really expensive one!”
“Yeah, it was about 100,000 yen.”
“Whoa, whoa, that’s amazing!”
Okumura looks up at me, her eyes sparkling. I have a bad feeling about this.
“Hey, let me use it too!”
Knew she’d say that.
Well, honestly, I have no idea how to use it, so having Okumura around—who seems to have experience—might actually be helpful.
“I don’t mind.”
“Yes! Then I’ll just head straight to your room!”
Looks like she’s coming along. Not that I’m surprised—she is my neighbor, after all.
As I unlock the door, wondering if I left anything embarrassing lying around, Okumura strides in ahead of me.
“Hey! Don’t just walk in before the homeowner!”
“Hehe, what’s the big deal?”
She grins mischievously.
My first impression of her was that she was a timid girl, but this must be her true personality. She probably acts overly familiar once she’s comfortable with someone.
She’s cute, but with a personality like this, I worry if she ever gets bullied at school.
“So, where’s your PC?”
Okumura glances around my room.
“PC? I don’t have one.”
When I say this, she gives me a puzzled look.
“Huh? How are you planning to use the MetaFocus without a PC?”
“Wait… you need a PC to use it?”
“Uh, yeah?”
“Huh?”
“Huh?”
…Looks like my journey into the VR world will have to wait.
“No way…!”
I collapse in despair as Okumura pats my back.
For a moment, I think she’s comforting me, but when I look up, she’s smirking wickedly.
“Haha! That’s so lame! Buying a MetaFocus without even having a PC—what a waste!”
“Hey! Can’t you be a little more sympathetic?”
“Lemme guess, a store clerk convinced you with something like, ‘You can watch all sorts of interesting things with this!’ Hahaha! Embarrassing~!”
“Damn it… I can’t even argue with that…”
After she finishes laughing at my misery, she wipes away her tears and says,
“Hey, since we have it, why don’t we use it at my place? I have a PC.”
“Wait, really?”
“Of course! I wanna try it too. Or, if you don’t need it, you could just give it to me?”
Tilting her head adorably, she gives me a pleading look.
For a second, I actually consider it. This girl’s a little devil.
“No way! But I guess I can lend it to you until I get a PC.”
“Yay! Then let’s go to my room right now!”
With that, Okumura grabs the MetaFocus and rushes out of my room.
Now that I think about it, this is the first time in my life I’ll be stepping into a girl’s room.
And suddenly, I remember our teacher Sagara’s words:
“Boys are the ones who get eaten.”
…No, no, Okumura was terrified of being harassed just the other day. I’m probably overthinking it.
As I hesitate, Okumura peeks back through the door.
“Hurry up! If you don’t, I’ll start the unboxing ceremony without you!”
“Hey! The unboxing ceremony is mine! It’s my MetaFocus!”
Sagara-sensei’s words fade from my mind as I rush after Okumura into her room.
