“…Professor Geek, are you more tired than usual?”
After finishing today’s class, during our usual study session in my office, Melia asked me with a look of concern.
Not good. I didn’t intend to show my fatigue in front of my students as a teacher, but it seems I failed to hide it.
“No, I’m fine. I was just a little busy over the weekend, so I’m a bit tired. Don’t worry about it—focus on your studies.”
“Could it possibly be womanizing? As a teacher guiding students, that would be rather questionable, wouldn’t it?”
“Of course not!”
What on earth is Cyril even talking about…?
If anything, I was surrounded by a rugged group of criminals with menacing faces, and it was quite the hassle. Well, walking through the town with Anon earlier doesn’t count as womanizing, right?
“Professor Geek, if you’re tired, wouldn’t it be better to wrap things up early today?”
“I’m fine, Bern. If there’s anything you’d like to ask, don’t hesitate to do so. Besides, I actually had something good happen recently.”
“Something good?”
“Yeah. Most of the S-class students have finally joined the practical training sessions for defense magic.”
Thanks to the events the other day, Eliza and Sophia started participating in the practical training of my class. As expected, other S-class students followed suit.
The only one who didn’t join was Loft’s ex-girlfriend, one of Gariel’s followers. Well, she seemed to bear more resentment toward me than an inclination to cozy up to the Third Princess, Eliza.
By the way, the major incident involving the kidnapping of Eliza and Sophia hadn’t spread among the other students. Understandably, given its gravity, the higher-ups had imposed a gag order.
“Professor Geek’s classes are so easy to understand! If they’ve attended even once, I’m sure they’ll continue participating in the future!”
“Hmm, I’m glad to hear you say that, Melia. Also, at first, there was a request from the students to see some impressive magic, so when I showed them, they were astonished and became quite cooperative in the class.”
“I see. Indeed, that might be the quickest way to demonstrate your skills as a temporary instructor, Professor Geek. If we had seen large-scale magic instead of just reflection magic, we might have understood your abilities even faster.”
“I do feel I could’ve handled that better. It seems showing off advanced magic from the start would have been more effective.”
Coupled with the terrible state left by my predecessor, most of the students at this academy doubted my magical skills as a temporary teacher.
It turned out that instead of demonstrating combat skills in mock battles, proving my capability with an easily recognizable large-scale magic spell was more convincing.
I’ll reflect on that. Eliza, who suggested I show impressive magic first, likely intended just that.
She, a student, seemed to understand this better than I did. I should thank her.
“Professor, could you show us that magic too?”
“Sure, I don’t mind. Since this classroom is too small, I’ll demonstrate it at the start of our next lesson at the training ground.”
“Thank you so much!”
Since the Purple Lightning Wolf spell is quite advanced, I showcased a slightly simpler magic spell for the S-class lesson. I’ll demonstrate the same spell for the other classes.
“By the way, I heard a rumor that several well-known criminal organizations have been taken down in the past few days. Apparently, it wasn’t the Knights or adventurers of this country who did it.”
“Eh!?”
“Really? That actually happened!?”
Cyril’s ability to gather information is as sharp as ever. Wait, it’s already become a rumor?
How do the nobles and royalty of this otherworld, without social media, gather such information so quickly?
“No one knows who took down those criminal organizations or why. If such a secret group of justice exists, that’s incredible.”
“Yeah! That’s so cool!”
“To do something so remarkable and not claim credit for it—how admirable.”
“……………”
I didn’t mean for it to be so noble, though…
In this world, disparities in status and wealth allow criminal groups to spring up like cockroaches. There’s no way to take down every single one of them.
I only act when the situation directly threatens me or the students at this academy.
It seems Cyril doesn’t suspect me of being involved. After all, it wasn’t an organization—it was just me and Anon, and we erased all traces, so it probably won’t be found out.
Knock, knock.
“Come in.”
“Excuse me.”
“Sorry to intrude.”
It seems Eliza and Sophia have arrived. Now, how should I explain the sudden visit of the Third Princess Eliza and her escort, Sophia, to this office?
