“Is Shiba-san going to fight these guys? Is he out of his mind?”
Shiba-san is someone who can make calm judgments. I don’t think he would engage in a fight with no chance of winning in a situation like this.
If he’s chosen to fight, I believe he must think there’s a way to win…
As for me, should I give the order to retreat here, or should I trust Shiba-san?
“Uhm… I think the first one attacked was him, right?”
Shiba-san raised his hand towards the man who was first attacked by the Gold Gel.
“Hydro!”
Water was released from Shiba-san’s hand. The water splashed onto the Gold Gel.
“Water? Is water effective against slimes?”
Kōya asked Shiba-san. I was pretty much on the same page as him.
Slimes are made of water, so I didn’t think water could do much against them.
Still, since Shiba-san chose to use water, he must have some kind of plan, but I wonder…
Th-this is…! I was glued to the screen.
The golden slime was slowly losing its color, and it was gradually shrinking.
“Whaaaat!”
“Is water effective against slimes?”
“That’s not the impression I had…”
“If it were a normal slime, I’d think it would absorb the water and get bigger…”
The comment section was scrolling like crazy. No one had expected this turn of events.
The slime was vanishing due to the water magic. What kind of logic was behind this?
“Shiba-kun. What exactly is going on here?”
Daigo-san also seemed confused. What exactly did Shiba-san do?
“Daigo-kun. Help me out. I’m not a magic type, so I can’t cast magic too many times.”
Dungeon streamers generally fall into two categories: those who have high endurance and don’t accumulate energy quickly, and those who lack endurance but accumulate energy quickly.
Shiba-san is the former, a front-line attacker, so while he can use magic, he can’t cast it repeatedly.
“Got it. But what do we do? This isn’t ordinary water, right?”
“Yeah. I took a gamble and added an alkaline property to the water magic. I figured this slime has a strong acidic element. So, I thought I could neutralize it with an alkaline substance.”
It’s basic science knowledge, like something you’d learn in middle school. But if this slime’s body can only survive in an acidic environment, then adding alkalinity should make it impossible for the slime to maintain its form, right?
Did Shiba-san realize that?
“I see… it’s not just plain water.”
“If it’s you, Daigo-kun, you should be able to do this kind of property change, right?”
“Of course. Actually, it’s my specialty.”
Daigo-san and Shiba-san worked together, using water magic to attack the Gold Gel.
The Gold Gel shrank more and more, and the damage was being reduced.
“Oh, oh! We’re saved…”
The men who had been surrounded were being rescued one by one. Meanwhile…
“Hey, hey! What about me? Why are you prioritizing them? I’m a girl, you know? Don’t you know the word ‘lady first’?”
Shiba-san and Daigo-san were using water to help the people attacked by the Gold Gel in the order they were attacked.
Lena-tan, who was attacked last, had to wait her turn, which was understandable.
“Just wait. This guy’s injuries are more serious. You still have some time.”
“I don’t care about that! Ah, it’s burning! My shoulder is melting!”
“Desperate to be saved, huh?”
“This is when you really see someone’s true nature…”
“Well, everyone’s scared of dying, right?”
“But still, skipping over someone who was attacked first just to save yourself…”
Shiba-san and Daigo-san ignored Lena-tan. The injuries of the people who were attacked earlier were likely more severe.
“Ugh, sniff… Why are you ignoring me? I’ll die alone, unloved by anyone…”
“Lena-tan, it’s okay. I’ll save you.”
One of the men who had been possessed by the Gold Gel earlier approached Lena-tan.
“Huh?”
“It’s just water magic, after all. Even I can use it.”
“Ah, thank you. Please help me!”
“Hehe, I got it, Lena-tan. I’ll save you right now. Hydro!”
One of the men around Lena-tan poured water onto the Gold Gel on her right shoulder. As a result, the color of the Gold Gel started to darken, and it began to squirm.
“Eh, eh! Wait, this… isn’t it getting stronger?!”
“Wha… No way! This can’t be happening…”
Lena-tan’s right shoulder was being eaten away by the Gold Gel.
“Ah, ahhh! It hurts! It hurts, it’s hot!”
“I… I don’t know anything about this!”
The man who poured water onto Lena-tan’s shoulder quickly fled, trying to escape responsibility.
“Wow…”
“That’s the worst…”
“Messing things up even more…”
“What… what is he doing…?”
“Hey! Come back here!”
Kōya and Ikezawa-san had been watching the man’s reckless actions. Ikezawa-san yelled at him as he ran off, but he was already far away.
“Wh-what… is this? What are we supposed to do about this?”
Shiba-san looked at the Gold Gel on Lena-tan’s shoulder with an expression of despair.
“Daigo-kun. Please take care of the others. I’ll handle this one.”
“Got it.”
Shiba-san said he’d handle it, but… can he really? The Gold Gel had grown larger than before and was spreading over Lena-tan’s body.
“Hydro!”
Shiba-san poured water onto the Gold Gel on Lena-tan, but it didn’t lose any color at all. It was as if water had no effect.
“Hehehe… it’s useless.”
“Huh?”
“Who was that voice?”
“A woman’s voice?”
“But that’s not Lena-tan’s voice, right?”
“Thanks to absorbing this woman’s flesh, I have evolved!”
The Gold Gel moved and transformed. It jumped off Lena-tan’s shoulder and started growing bigger, reaching a height about the same as Ikezawa-san.
The slime, now humanoid in shape, continued to grow.
“What!? A human-shaped form?!”
“Monster girl, here it comes!”
“What are you?”
Shiba-san raised his spear and confronted the Gold Gel. The Gold Gel laughed and looked down at Shiba-san with a mocking expression.
“I am what you call the Gold Gel. I devoured this woman’s flesh, absorbed her genes, and gained both intelligence and this form. In a way, I can be considered her daughter or sister.”
“Wh-what are you talking about! Don’t act like my daughter! I’m still single!”
Is that the issue here?
“I won’t fall for tricks like last time. Don’t think you can defeat me with such shallow knowledge, like neutralizing me!”
The Gold Gel detached part of its body and launched it like a bullet.
“Ugh…!”
Shiba-san spun his spear like a windmill. The spinning motion deflected the slime’s bullet attacks.
“Hehe. You’re not bad.”
The Gold Gel had a relaxed expression. Shiba-san, on the other hand, was sweating and panting heavily.
The only way to stop those attacks was by spinning the spear at high speed, which was exhausting. This thing is strong enough to make Shiba-san sweat.
“Kaito-kun! I need a buff! I can’t handle this alone!”
“Y-yes! Go for it, everyone!”
Ikezawa-san shouted loudly. With that, the buff should have been applied to everyone in the group.
“Just what do you think your cheering will do? It’s nothing but a mere distraction.”
“We’ll see about that.”
Shiba-san moved at high speed and thrust his spear forcefully into the Gold Gel’s left arm.
“Wha…! It’s so fast…”
“Don’t forget about me!”
Kōya cut off the Gold Gel’s head with his sword.
“Yes!!”
“We got the boss’s head!”
“Nice job, Kōya!”
“Not yet.”
As Shiba-san had said, the Gold Gel’s head grew back quickly.
“You underestimate the regeneration ability of slimes.”
The severed head sluggishly moved and was absorbed back into the Gold Gel’s body, completely healing it.
“…?”
Kōya looked away from the Gold Gel and toward his sword. I also looked at Kōya’s sword.
What is that…? There’s some sort of aura coming from Kōya’s sword.
“Kōya-kun. Don’t look away.”
“Ah, yes!”
Shiba-san didn’t seem to notice, but Kōya’s sword definitely seemed to be glowing with something.
