Chapter 3

Until it's discovered②

The Princess Sitting Next to Me is a Sweet Girlfriend Only in Front of Me

Fia Carat.

The adorable girl sitting next to me is the star of this class.

Her semi-long, chestnut-colored hair falls just below her shoulders, accented by a charming floral hair clip that serves as a perfect touch.

Petite in stature, she’s more endearing than stunning, exuding a charm reminiscent of a small, lovable creature.

She excels academically and is skilled in both literary and physical pursuits.

With a personality as pure and kind as a model student, she treats everyone in the class with unwavering kindness.

Her affability and approachable nature captivate many, drawing them to her effortlessly.

And that kindness—

“Good morning, Heim-kun!”

For some reason, she extends it equally to me as well.

“Morning, Fia.”
“Mm-hmm, good! Fia-san is too formal, after all. Have you finally gotten used to it?”
“Thanks to you, yeah.”

Nodding cheerfully with a radiant smile, Fia naturally takes her seat.

She doesn’t seem to care about the stares from those around her.

Rather, her sun-like smile makes others feel it’s shameful to direct contemptuous gazes my way while she’s here.

Faced with her presence, even the harsh looks directed at me soften.

Well, for some people, those looks only grow sharper, though.

“Oh, right! Heim-kun, you’ve got Archaeomagic Studies today, don’t you?”
“Yeah, it’s only held once a month, so I can’t afford to skip it.”
“Ehehe, awesome!”

For some reason, Fia beams with joy, grinning mischievously.

Archaeomagic Studies is one of the courses offered at Palette, but to put it bluntly, it’s incredibly unpopular.

Specifically, the only two students attending the class this year are Fia and me.

Seeing her this happy, I guess she must really love Archaeomagic Studies.

But it almost feels like she’s happy just because she gets to take the lecture with me, which makes me misunderstand.

Since enrolling in this academy, Fia has always paid attention to me in various ways.

I suppose it’s because she’s just that kind-hearted, but is this really okay?

I’m a commoner, often derisively referred to as “leftovers,” while Fia is highly regarded in class.

Her universally liked personality aside, the kindness she shows me isn’t something reserved solely for me.

She has an incredible knack for avoiding actions that might make others uncomfortable.

At the same time, she discreetly lends a hand to those in trouble.

She’s a master of consideration, if I had to put it into words.

There are other reasons, of course, but for now, I’ll leave it at that.

“Alright, looking forward to today too, Heim-kun!”
“Yeah.”

Still, what’s with how unusually friendly she is with me?

It’s almost enough to make me misunderstand.

If I had to point out a flaw in Fia, it would be her tendency to make boys misunderstand.

It’s not just me; it’s a matter tied to her position in this class’s social hierarchy.

Despite being a commoner, I, Heim, was recognized for my talent and allowed to attend the Magic Academy as a scholarship student. One day, I discovered that the girl sitting next to me, Fia Carat, is actually this country's princess, Stellafia Magipastel. Though this revelation led to the two of us sharing her secret, for some reason, Fia began acting even more forwardly toward me than before I learned the truth…? Even though I’m called a genius, being a commoner surrounded by nobles at the Magic Academy meant I was looked down upon. The only one who treated me kindly was Fia, my seatmate. Kind-hearted, good-natured, and with a bit of a selfish streak that somehow only adds to her charm, she had a way of drawing me in. But why does Fia hold me, someone like me, in such high regard…?
