The Princess Sitting Next to Me is a Sweet Girlfriend Only in Front of Me
The biggest change between me and Fia is probably Fia’s attitude.
Until now, Fia was just a classmate who sat next to me.
We only exchanged words during morning greetings and once a month during our Archaeological Magic lecture.
Since the Archaeological Magic lecture is usually right before lunch break, she would sometimes invite me to lunch under various pretexts, but that was about it.
Now, however, we basically move between classes together.
Though, naturally, this only happens when we have the same classes. During mandatory lectures, we still split up and move separately.
“Hehe~ This lecture is with Heim-kun. Sitting together in public feels so refreshing.”
“Well… until now, we never sat next to each other except during Archaeological Magic.”
A lot of the elective courses that Fia and I chose overlap.
I don’t have any reason to take economics or etiquette classes meant for nobles, and apparently Fia learns those kinds of things at home.
So naturally, the elective courses we end up taking tend to lean heavily toward theoretical magic studies.
“And yet, until now, Heim-kun never sat with me…”
“Well, we didn’t have much of a connection, so it couldn’t be helped.”
“But isn’t being in the same class and sitting next to each other enough?”
It’s not that it’s impossible… but isn’t using that as a reason to sit together a bit too forward for opposite genders?
Thinking about it that way, even this time, choosing to sit next to each other in an elective course as a man and woman is quite a bold move…
But well, romance among students isn’t exactly rare.
Even though this is a place where many nobles gather, love is an essential factor at this age.
There’s also the aspect of it being a matchmaking venue.
I’m sure there are many students who hope to find a good match here.
In that regard, “Fia Carat” isn’t in a position to attract attention as a noblewoman.
Her family’s status is quite low, and they aren’t well-known.
Unless someone specifically wants Fia herself, like Gourie did, no noble would bother making a move on her.
…Though, perhaps that’s actually fortunate for any noble who might consider her.
That’s why, even if a boy and girl sit together like this, it doesn’t attract much attention.
Besides, only Fia and I from our class are taking this elective course, so there’s no worry of our classmates finding out.
“I’m really starting to look forward to these lectures!”
“Well, it’s not like we’ll be talking during the lecture, so nothing will really change.”
“But my attitude toward attending lectures is completely different now! Motivation is important, you know?”
“Well, I can agree with that.”
Which is exactly why I feel it all the more.
The change in Fia’s attitude.
The sense that the hesitation—or rather, the wall—between us has disappeared.
And now that it’s gone, I realize something—Fia has a tendency to give men the wrong idea.
The reason for that lies in this “wall” of hers.
Fia used to maintain a certain distance, a polite barrier between us, which made her seem unapproachable. Now that it’s gone, her behavior comes across as more open and friendly, which could easily be misinterpreted by someone unaware of her true feelings. It’s almost as if her lack of walls makes her seem more inviting than she intends to be.
