Chapter 22

Taking the entrance exam

I Reincarnated As the Villain in a Game, but I Don’t Want to Be Executed, So I’ll Use My Game Knowledge, Stay Serious, Take It Easy, and Live a Relaxed Life.

The day after the event where I received a precious dagger while secretly visiting a grave with the king.

“Next student, step forward.”

“Yes!”

Today was the day of the entrance exam for the noble academy. So, I came to the noble academy with Schwarz.

Regarding the exam, it seemed to consist of three parts: magic aptitude test, physical fitness test, and an interview, just as my shitty father had said.

And according to the scenario my shitty father envisioned… I would perform poorly in the entrance exam and fail, while my younger brother Schwarz would pass with top honors, thereby highlighting Schwarz’s excellence.

The main goal was probably to have the prestigious noble ladies watching the entrance exam remember Schwarz’s name. In other words, to secure a good marriage for Schwarz.

Well, Schwarz also loves erotic stuff, so he probably wants to find a lady to marry now rather than later… I mean, he’s probably going along with my father’s plan.

(Well, as long as it doesn’t harm me, they can use me as a decoy or whatever they want.)

While thinking such thoughts, I absentmindedly waited for my name to be called by the examiner. And soon enough…

“Next student, Seras Alfeid. Step forward.”

“Yes.”

I stepped forward as my name was called. The magic aptitude test was about to begin.

‘Oh, that’s the son of the prestigious Alfeid family, known for their magic!’

‘His magic aptitude must be incredibly high!’

‘But why is he taking the entrance exam at 17?’

‘Could there be some family circumstances?’

As I stepped forward, the surrounding examinees began whispering among themselves.

Well, it seems the Alfeid family is indeed a highly distinguished noble family, and the people around were buzzing upon hearing the name Alfeid.

…Which means what’s about to happen next is easy to predict. Oh well.

“Now, Seras. Please place your hand on the crystal in front of you and channel your magic. The crystal’s glow will measure your magic aptitude.”

“Understood.”

I followed the examiner’s instructions and placed my hand on the crystal, channeling my magic as usual. But…

—— Silence…

As expected, the crystal in front of me showed no reaction. The examiner looked at me in confusion.

“Uh, um. Have you already channeled your magic?”

“Yes. I’m channeling it with all my might.”

“I-I see. Then, I will report the results. Seras Alfeid’s magic aptitude is… 0.”

—— Murmur…!!

Instantly, the surrounding examinees erupted in murmurs.

‘The son of the prestigious Alfeid family, known for their magic, has no magic aptitude!?’

‘How can that be!? Just a few years ago, they published an amazing magic thesis! How can a child from that family have no magic aptitude… no way!?’

‘Wait, maybe… he had no magic aptitude and was deemed incompetent, so he wasn’t allowed to take the entrance exam until he was 15…?’

‘Ah, that’s definitely possible…’

I could hear voices mocking me. Well, it’s within expectations.

And of course, it’s a given that there are many people in this world without magic aptitude. In fact, there are more people without aptitude than with it.

So, having a magic aptitude of 0 isn’t something to be ashamed of. It’s just that I’m the eldest son of the prestigious Alfeid family, which makes it seem shameful.

Well, I don’t feel particularly ashamed about having no magic aptitude. Honestly, I’m more ashamed of being related to my shitty father.

“Ahem. Now, let’s move on… Schwarz Alfeid. Step forward.”

“Yes.”

With that, my younger brother Schwarz was called forward by the examiner.

And at that moment, Schwarz looked at me with a smug, condescending smirk. That smirk, so much like my father’s, pissed me off, but I’ll just ignore it.

‘So, the Alfeid family… I see, he’s the younger brother of that incompetent guy from earlier?’

‘I wonder what his magic aptitude is like?’

‘If he ends up like his older brother, the Alfeid family is finished…’

‘Shh! That’s going too far…’

With Schwarz’s appearance, the surrounding students began murmuring again. Naturally, all attention was now focused on Schwarz.

My shitty father must be grinning from ear to ear. After all, he used me as a decoy to create this scene.

“Now, Schwarz. Like your older brother, please place your hand on the crystal in front of you and channel your magic.”

“Understood.”

With that, Schwarz placed his hand on the crystal and began channeling his magic. Then, in an instant…

—— Crack!!

“…Huh?”

“…What?”

“…Eh?”

In that moment, the crystal Schwarz had touched shattered into pieces. The examinees who saw this were instantly struck with expressions of shock.

The examiner was also stunned but quickly regained his composure and reported Schwarz’s results.

“Uh… wha—!? Uh, um… then, I will report the results! Schwarz Alfeid’s magic aptitude is… a perfect 100, an undisputed SSS rank!”

—— Wooooooow…!!

Instantly, a loud cheer erupted from the surrounding examinees.

‘As expected of the son of the prestigious Alfeid family!’

‘An SSS rank in magic aptitude is incredible! This must be the result of his parents’ upbringing!’

‘Haha, what a stark contrast to his older brother earlier. The younger brother must have taken all the talent for himself…’

‘Ah, that’s a bit sad for the older brother… but still, to have such an outstanding mage in the family, the Alfeid family is truly amazing!!’

‘Yes, truly wonderful… I’d love to get closer to such a talented young man…’

‘Yes, indeed. I’ll ask my father to arrange a tea party with the Alfeid family right away.’

‘Ah, that’s not fair! Please invite me too! I also want to get closer to Schwarz!’

And just like that, Schwarz’s reputation spread like wildfire. Well, it seems my shitty father got the result he wanted. Good for him.

For some reason, I’ve reincarnated as a totally vile boss character in a dark fantasy-style eroge called Sword Fantasia. That boss’s name is Seras Alfeid. Seras is a human who joins forces with the final boss, the Demon King, to try to wipe out all of humanity. In the story, he mercilessly slaughters people who beg for their lives, and subjects women to such horrific abuse that their minds break—a truly revolting, vile character. He’s also one of the toughest bosses in the game, and I remember getting a game over countless times while trying to beat him. I was so frustrated at the time from having to redo that fight over and over because of this awful character, Seras. And in the end, after Seras loses to the protagonist, he’s brutally tortured and then executed… Wait, hold on! Does that mean I’ll be tortured and executed in the end if I stay on this path!? Well, maybe this is a small silver lining, but I reincarnated way before the game’s storyline starts, during Seras’s childhood—meaning, before he becomes this horrible villain. "Okay… if that’s the case, I’ll just have to live earnestly and make sure I don’t fall to darkness!" If I do that, I should be able to escape this terrible fate of being tortured and executed, right? Plus, I have all my knowledge of Sword Fantasia. With that, I’ll never have to worry about money. And since I’m the strongest boss character in the story, if I train my body well from a young age, I’m guaranteed to become the strongest someday. …Wait, hold on. Doesn’t this mean that if I use my game knowledge well, I can live a pretty easy life?
