Chapter 21

Visiting the tomb with the King

I Reincarnated As the Villain in a Game, but I Don’t Want to Be Executed, So I’ll Use My Game Knowledge, Stay Serious, Take It Easy, and Live a Relaxed Life.

“Yes, that should be everything.”

“Ah, thank you, young man. You’ve been a great help.”

I gathered the flowers scattered on the ground and handed them over to the old man—or rather, the king.

“No, no, I just did what anyone would do. But it must have been quite the misfortune to trip in the middle of the street like that. Did you run into something?”

“No, it’s not like that. I went out for the first time in a while today. It seems my legs have gotten quite weak, so I just stumbled on my own.”

“Eh, is that so? Have you been feeling unwell recently?”

“Ah, yes. Actually, I caught a popular illness a while back. I’ve been confined to my bed at home ever since, but I finally recovered just the other day. So today, I decided to go out for the first time in a long time.”

“I see. I’m really glad to hear that you’ve recovered from the illness. But the period right after recovery is the most dangerous, so please be careful from now on.”

“Ah, yes, thank you, young man. I’ll make sure to be careful.”

It seems the king had been suffering from a popular illness until recently.

(Well, if it’s a popular illness, maybe it was something like a cold?)

So, at this point, he hasn’t been afflicted with an incurable disease. That means the king’s death from illness is still a long way off.

“Please take care. Oh, by the way… what were you doing just now? Did you come here just to buy flowers?”

“Ah, no. Actually, I was planning to visit the grave of an old friend. You see, I’ve been sick for so long that I haven’t been able to visit my friend’s grave. So I thought I’d take this opportunity to go, and I came to buy flowers first. But it seems my legs have gotten quite weak, and I ended up tripping. Haha, how embarrassing.”

“Ah, I see. Well, in that case… would it be alright if I accompanied you to the grave?”

“Eh? You want to come with me?”

When I made that suggestion, the king looked a bit surprised and asked me that.

“Yes, I think there’s a chance you might fall again, so if it’s alright, I’d like to help you with the visit to the grave.”

“Hmm, I’m happy to hear that… but are you sure? Don’t you have any plans after this?”

“No, it’s completely fine. I don’t have any plans. Besides, I also have a deep respect for the predecessors of our country. So please, let me help you with your friend’s grave.”

“…I see. Well, I’m really happy to hear that you hold my friends in such high regard. I’m sure my friends in heaven would be pleased too. Hehe, so you’ll help me with the grave visit?”

“Yes, of course.”

And so, I ended up helping the king with his visit to the grave.

◇◇◇◇

Not long after that.

Guided by the king, we arrived at the cemetery, and I began to help with the grave visit.

I helped with cleaning around the grave, replacing the flowers, watering them, and anything else I could do.

Several hours after we started, we finally finished all the tasks for the grave visit.

“Thank you so much for your help today, young man. You’ve been a great help.”

Having successfully completed the grave visit, the king bowed deeply to me.

“No, no, it’s only natural to respect our elders. I’m just glad I could be of help to you.”

I smiled gently at the king as I responded.

But honestly, being this casual with the king feels like it might be a crime of disrespect… but the king hasn’t revealed his identity, so I decided to keep acting casually without letting on that I know who he is.

(But in the end… whose grave was that?)

I never found out whose grave it was, but since the king came to visit it right after recovering from his illness, it must have been a very dear friend.

“…Hehe. You really have a kind heart. And judging by your manner of speaking and demeanor… are you perhaps a noble? If so, would you mind telling me your family name?”

“Ah, yes. My name is Seras Alfeid. I’m the son of the Count family that governs the Alphonse territory in the northwest.”

“Alfeid… Ah, I see. The Alfeid family is known as a prestigious family of magic, right… Wait, huh? Seres? Your name is Seras Alfeid?”

“Eh? Ah, yes, that’s right. My name is Seras Alfeid. Why do you ask?”

Upon hearing my name, the king suddenly looked quite shocked. I don’t think my name is that strange, though…

“I see… So you’re that…”

“? Is something wrong?”

“Eh? Ah, no, it’s nothing. Just talking to myself. But… I see. Even though you’re still young, you have such a strong sense of respect and courtesy. You’re quite an impressive young man. Well then, as a token of my gratitude… I’ll give you this.”

“Thank you. Let’s see… is this… a dagger?”

With that, the king handed me a small sword. It was a stylish, high-quality knife.

“Ah, that’s right. Feel free to use it for self-defense. And if you ever run into any trouble, take this dagger to the adventurer’s guild in the royal capital. The guild master there will listen to anything you have to say.”

“Eh… Wait, what!? The guild master of the royal capital!? That means… the top of all the adventurer’s guilds in the country, right?”

The “Adventurer’s Guild” is a facility that exists all over the country, but its headquarters is in the royal capital. And the person who leads it is the guild master, who stands at the top of all adventurers.

So the guild master is far more important than branch leaders like Douglas. By the way, in the main game, the guild master is also a character who becomes an ally.

“Ah, that’s right. Hehe, I may not look like it now, but I was quite the adventurer in my youth. Thanks to my achievements back then, I still have some influence in the adventurer’s guild. So if you ever run into any trouble, take this dagger to the guild. I’m sure they’ll listen to whatever you have to say.”

“Ah, thank you so much! That’s a huge help!”

And so, I received an incredibly valuable dagger from the king.

This will definitely come in handy someday. I’ve managed to obtain an item of such importance!

(But why did he give me something so amazing just for helping with a grave visit?)

Getting a national treasure-level item just for helping with a grave visit feels a bit strange… but for now, I’ll gratefully accept it.

For some reason, I’ve reincarnated as a totally vile boss character in a dark fantasy-style eroge called Sword Fantasia. That boss’s name is Seras Alfeid. Seras is a human who joins forces with the final boss, the Demon King, to try to wipe out all of humanity. In the story, he mercilessly slaughters people who beg for their lives, and subjects women to such horrific abuse that their minds break—a truly revolting, vile character. He’s also one of the toughest bosses in the game, and I remember getting a game over countless times while trying to beat him. I was so frustrated at the time from having to redo that fight over and over because of this awful character, Seras. And in the end, after Seras loses to the protagonist, he’s brutally tortured and then executed… Wait, hold on! Does that mean I’ll be tortured and executed in the end if I stay on this path!? Well, maybe this is a small silver lining, but I reincarnated way before the game’s storyline starts, during Seras’s childhood—meaning, before he becomes this horrible villain. "Okay… if that’s the case, I’ll just have to live earnestly and make sure I don’t fall to darkness!" If I do that, I should be able to escape this terrible fate of being tortured and executed, right? Plus, I have all my knowledge of Sword Fantasia. With that, I’ll never have to worry about money. And since I’m the strongest boss character in the story, if I train my body well from a young age, I’m guaranteed to become the strongest someday. …Wait, hold on. Doesn’t this mean that if I use my game knowledge well, I can live a pretty easy life?
