I was reincarnated as bait for the summoned hero
“Right. I’ll give this to Shella .”
Saying that, without any fanfare, Thomas handed over a simple wooden staff. The staff, with a faded light brown color, had delicate decorations upon closer inspection.
This, I remember, is a magical tool that dropped when we defeated the High Oak King.
“Are you sure? If it’s a magical tool, the guild’s buyback price and points would be pretty high…”
“Well, it is rare, but I’d be happier if Shella used it.”
“Ah, thank you…!”
I had sold off the other magical tools and accessories that dropped from the High Oak King at the guild, but this was for Shella , so I gladly accepted it.
“By the way, that’s the ‘Purification Staff.’ It lets you use a magic similar to the Purification Clean spell that Kotesu and I use.”
“Purification Staff…!”
That sounds incredibly valuable, doesn’t it?
A little anxious, I was taught how to use it by Thomas with a smile.
“This holy staff called Purification… actually has both cleansing wash and curse-breaking abilities. The cleansing wash is like the Purification Clean we use to get rid of dirt, yeah.”
“Living magic…”
Living magic is taught to me several times because it’s quite handy, but unfortunately, I didn’t have the aptitude for it. I couldn’t even use the simple Fire spell. But with this staff, I can now use cleansing wash, which is said to be one of the more difficult living magics.
“Purification Clean and cleansing wash are different names, huh?”
“Yeah, about that… If a priest or someone found out, they’d probably scold us…”
“Eh?”
“Actually, Purification Clean isn’t a magic to clean dirt—it’s originally a spell to purify areas tainted by dense mana turning into miasma…”
“Eh…!”
She froze, shocked by his statement.
“But Thomas and Kotesu use it normally to clean dirt, right…?”
“Yeah, because it makes things sparkle…”
“………..”
“Uh, right! In that case, it’s really cleansing wash. If you chant that while pouring your magic into it, the place you want to clean will shine as if it were brand new.”
“Wow… that’s amazing.”
I tried it right away, and sure enough, just like the Purification Clean, my skin shone brightly. The clothes I was wearing didn’t need washing either.
“Wow! I can use it too!”
“Yeah, that’s great. Also, this Purification Staff can also remove curses. Pretty handy, huh?”
“…Isn’t this really a holy, something-like magical tool?”
Is it okay to use this like a bath substitute?
“I think it’s fine because it’s handy. You wouldn’t mind, would you, if I, a guy, used Purification Clean magic on you every day?”
He asked seriously, and I ended up nodding. He looked at me with a happy smile as if he was expecting it.
(Sorry, I actually didn’t mind at all. If anything, I thought it was lucky to not have to bathe…)
Thomas, who kindly took care of me, was far more nurturing than my real mother. I’d become used to relying on him without hesitation.
The Purification Clean magic he cast on me was warm and felt wonderful. Even when I was in a bad mood, it mysteriously lightened my heart.
(But I can’t keep asking him to do everything, right? I need to take care of myself and be more independent!)
While Thomas treated Shella like a little sister, the truth is, she secretly felt like he was treating her like his “mom.” He was kind, beautiful, and cooked delicious meals. When she did something wrong, he scolded her properly, and he was fairly strict with manners. Yeah, he was like a mom.
Anyway, since it was my share, I decided to use the Purification Staff carefully. I felt like it probably had light or holy magic, so it might be useful in battles against monsters.
(I heard from Rei that if I become a mythical beast, I’ll need to purify miasma, so this is something I really need.)
Although I was still a chick with the egg shell on its bottom, I was determined to go on a purification journey for the hero—and for Thomas.
Having evolved from a weak little bird to a beautiful bird that can fly swiftly and wrap itself in wind magic, I felt full of motivation.
(I even got complimented by Thomas for being cute in my evolved form!)
As I was grinning, I was called to dinner.
“Alright! I’m coming!”
Tonight’s dinner was a steak made from wyvern meat hunted in a dungeon.
Back when I lived in the village in the Great Forest, I couldn’t even hunt a boa, but now, I was able to single-handedly take down a wyvern, the tyrant of the skies—an adult dragon!
I skipped happily to the dining room.
At the table, Rei, the golden dragon, and Kotesu, the cat fairy, were already seated, eagerly awaiting the food.
“It smells great!”
I took a deep breath, inhaling the wonderful smell of grilled meat. My stomach let out a hungry growl.
I quickly took my seat and watched Thomas, who was standing in the kitchen, preparing the meal.
“Here you go. Wyvern steak. Try it with the Sheraphir sauce.”
“Sheraphir…?”
“Sheraphir sauce. I think the sweetness of onions and the richness of red wine go well with the wyvern’s red meat.”
“Mm, that looks delicious.”
I sniffed, and it indeed smelled like a delicious sauce. Along with red wine and onions, I could also smell garlic and soy sauce.
“That would go well with bread, but tonight let’s have it with white rice. I think it’ll even be good as a steak bowl.”
“Oh, I’d like to try that. We still have some wyvern meat left, right?”
“Yeah, I sold some, but we still have plenty. I’ll make wyvern roast sandwiches for tomorrow’s lunch.”
“Wow…!”
Roast wyvern!
That tender red meat dish, cooked to perfection, soft and juicy.
I couldn’t believe he was going to make that with wyvern meat.
“Thomas-sama…”
“Stop that.”
“How about, Goddess-sama?”
“No, really, stop that?”
Since my gratitude prayer was ignored, I turned it into a prayer for today’s meal.
“Thank you for the meal!”
I immediately took my knife and fork and dove into the steak.
It wasn’t as easy to cut as roast beef, but when I sliced the wyvern meat, the beautiful red meat appeared. The knife slid into it as smoothly as if I were cutting butter.
I dipped a piece of meat into the small side plate of sauce and tried it.
It looked delicious.
Thomas had taught me that it’s a waste to put too much sauce on good meat. If you let the sauce cover the meat’s flavor, it would be ruined, right?
That made sense, so just a little dip of sauce was perfect.
Just like how you only lightly dip sashimi in soy sauce.
“Mmm.”
I took a bite of the meat.
The juicy meat filled my mouth, and the rich flavor of the meat blended perfectly with the sauce made from red wine and onions.
I was so absorbed in eating the wyvern steak, alternating between meat and rice. I couldn’t stop.
“It’s so good! Wyvern meat!”
“Yeah. It’s wonderful. We’ll have to go hunting again tomorrow.”
“Again? Well, fine, but we’re not progressing.”
Though he seemed a little exasperated, I knew that Thomas was also eating with enthusiasm.
Anyway, tomorrow we’ll have another fun wyvern hunt.
I smiled and held out my empty plate to Thomas, who was like my “mom.”
“Refill, please!”
