Chapter 120

In the Resort Mood, Part 3

I was reincarnated as bait for the summoned hero :

The reason why collecting seafood from the rocky areas is frowned upon is the appearance of Sahagin from the open sea.

While they aren’t too troublesome to deal with on land, the rocky terrain with its unsteady footing puts one at a significant disadvantage.

Fortunately, I’m a High Elf.

I’m nimble, have excellent balance, and above all, I excel at magic, allowing me to dispatch Sahagin with ease. With ranged attacks, they aren’t particularly difficult to take down. In fact, even Sheera has managed to kill more than seventy Sahagin using her bow.

Thanks to our consistent efforts in taking them down, Sheera now excitedly shares that her level is close to reaching 50.

We’ve sold the magic stones and materials to the commercial guild, which has given us some financial breathing room, leaving her quite pleased.

Recently, she’s even started shyly offering copper coins, asking me to buy cookies or chocolates from the shop.

“This kind of little… yes, occasional indulgence is what keeps me going. Munch munch… delicious…”

With a proud expression, Sheera eagerly devours her butter cookies. She looks like a chipmunk with puffed-up cheeks.

I made sure to remind her not to forget to brush her teeth afterward and to avoid overeating.

Anyway, back to the topic.

In short, the most dangerous creatures near this seaside area are the Sahagin. Next are large carnivorous fish.

These include sharks, killer whales, and unique otherworldly mutated fish affected by magic essence. Like magical beasts and monsters, they’re hostile toward humans.

Even seasoned fishermen struggle with fish sporting spear-like horns, making venturing into the open sea quite difficult.

Fortunately, such large fish rarely appear in the shallows.

However, “rarely” means they do show up occasionally, so it’s best to remain cautious.

“With that in mind, I’ve made something. A safe seaside swimming area.”

“Wow! You’ve surrounded the sea with rocks. That’s amazing, Ketsue!”

Feeling proud, I puffed up as Sheera smiled and stroked Ketsue, the cat. It was a peaceful scene.

Using earth magic, water magic, and my Item Box, I created an improvised seawater pool to keep dangerous fish from entering.

The area measures 25 meters on each side—a proper pool size. It’s just right for water play.

To prevent Sahagin from getting in, I had Ketsue use his spirit magic to sharpen the rocks into pointed spikes. If a Sahagin tried to climb over, its hands and feet would be shredded.

For extra safety, I pitched tents blessed by the Creator God on the beach. I explained that in case of danger, everyone should retreat into the tent’s protective barrier.

“If anything happens, just run to the beach and into the tent’s barrier. With this setup, we can enjoy a resort-like experience even in another world.”

I set up beach umbrellas, tables, and chairs on the sand. Nearby, I stretched a tarp for shade and arranged lounge chairs beneath it.

I packed a cooler box with ice made using ice magic to chill bottled drinks. For Sheera, who’s developed a liking for fizzy drinks, I stocked up on soda and carbonated juices.

“And of course, for me, there’s beer!”

I had picked up some bottled craft beer from a convenience shop. Like Sheera, I enjoy the occasional indulgence.

“Still, we’ve got to work hard in the morning.”

“Absolutely! Earning money is important! Otherwise, I won’t be able to buy snacks.”

“…Yeah, snacks are a priority, huh…”

What happened to the girl who once shone with dreams of becoming strong and independent?

Well, snacks are delicious, so I can’t blame her.

Even Ketsue has started bringing his own small earnings, requesting premium cat treats.

“Alright, let’s earn some money—for the sake of snacks.”

“Yes! For the sake of snacks!”

Sheera focuses on digging for clams while Ketsue and I head to the rocky areas. We hunt Sahagin while using water magic to catch fish alive.

Recently, the commercial guild found out that I can use ice magic. Now, the seafood we catch is frozen and stored in my Item Box, as frozen fish last longer and are highly sought after.

Whenever I visit the guild, they eagerly greet me, assess and purchase my catch, and then have me produce large amounts of ice.

I get paid a silver coin for a barrel full of ice, which is a nice bit of extra income.

Though water magic is popular in the fishing districts, ice magic users are even more valued.

Thanks to this, I’ve been able to buy fresh salmon and tuna caught far offshore, strengthening my relationship with the guild.

“Speaking of which, I got some fish yesterday. Let’s make today’s lunch a feast.”

Having something to look forward to makes work all the more enjoyable.

After a busy and productive day, Ketsue and I managed to secure a large haul of Sahagin materials and seafood.

◆◇◆

Since the tuna was too large, I decided to start by preparing the salmon.

I had some experience cleaning fish as part of my fishing hobby, so I could manage most fish without trouble. Though it was my first time dealing with salmon, I figured I could handle it.

First, I placed the knife at the gills, removed the head, and cut open the belly to take out the innards.

Unfortunately, there were no roe or milt inside—what a pity.

I carefully filleted the salmon into three pieces and sliced it thinly for sashimi.

Meanwhile, Sheera and Ketsue were enjoying themselves at the makeshift beach area I’d set up.

Ketsue, who loves baths but stubbornly refuses to swim in the sea, was leisurely strolling along the sandy shore.

Sheera, dressed in the swimsuit and rash guard I had prepared for her, was lazily floating on the water.

“An alternate world where people almost never play in rivers or the sea, huh…”

I sighed as I quietly worked on the fish.

Apparently, swimming for leisure doesn’t exist in this region. That explained why I never saw anyone enjoying the beach.

A fisherman I met at the market told me that people rarely venture into the sea except to catch fish.

With all the monsters lurking in the ocean and rivers, it made sense that no one would willingly go in.

As a result, Sheera didn’t know how to swim.

Learning to swim would definitely be useful, so I decided to teach her later.

Given that we had a safe swimming area now, I wanted her to enjoy it.

To make things more fun, I used my summoning magic to purchase beach balls and inflatable rings from an online store.

When I explained how to use them, Sheera immediately started floating on the water with the inflatable ring.

Noticing my gaze, she flashed a big smile and waved at me.

“Well, as long as she’s having fun, it’s fine, I guess.”

Ketsue was happily chasing a small crab, and the scene was as peaceful as could be.

(…Although, the occasional screams of Sahagin are a bit annoying.)

The sharp rocky barrier was doing an excellent job of keeping the Sahagin out.

Since their noise was irritating, I decided to deal with them later and focused on cooking for now.

◆◇◆

The blue sky was dotted with white clouds.

The sound of waves gently lapping the shore was soothing to the ears.

Thanks to the parasol and tarp, the sunlight was blocked, and the sea breeze felt refreshing.

“Lunch is ready!”

“I’m coming!”

“Meow!”

When I called out to the one person and one cat enjoying the sea, they hurried over.

Ketsue cast a purification spell, Clean, over everything, and Sheera politely expressed her thanks.

Once everything was clean, it was time for lunch.

Although the air-conditioned tiny house would’ve been more comfortable, I had gone to great lengths to create a resort-like atmosphere, so today’s lunch was on the beach.

“Since I learned Sheera’s okay with sashimi, today’s meal is fresh seafood dishes.”

The main focus was raw fish—cheers for sashimi!

Of course, vegetables are important, so I also prepared a vibrant carpaccio using salmon provided through the commercial guild’s connections.

The sashimi selection included salmon, sea bream, and horse mackerel. In addition, I cleaned and prepared oysters and sea urchins collected from the rocky shore to make them easier to eat.

For sushi, I shaped bite-sized balls of rice into temari sushi, focusing on ease of eating and aesthetic appeal.

“Then there’s the seafood bowl—because I want to eat it!”

“Wow… Everything is raw, isn’t it?”

Sheera peeked at the ingredients for the seafood bowl: slices of salmon, shrimp, sea urchin, sea bream, and squid.

Though it was a shame there were no scallops or salmon roe, the generous use of sea urchin made it a luxurious dish.

“When I dove earlier, I found a lot of sea urchins stuck to the rocks. There were plenty of oysters, too.”

“I never thought that spiky black thing was something edible!”

“It doesn’t look great, but it tastes amazing.”

Incidentally, all the plates for the sashimi and sushi were made of ice. They kept the dishes chilled perfectly, looked great, and enhanced the flavor—talk about killing two birds with one stone!

I handed Sheera a fork and spoon, prepared a portion for Ketsue, clasped my hands together, and said, “Let’s eat.”

Starting with my favorite raw oyster, I picked it up, squeezed lemon juice over it, and added a few drops of soy sauce.

With a slurp, I ate it, savoring the rich, oceanic flavor that filled my mouth.

It naturally brought a smile to my face.
