Thomas: The Reincarnated Person Who Became the Adopted Child of a Knightly Noble Family
While playing by the river, I discovered a crystal.
Crystals and other minerals are typically placed under the government’s management, with 60% of the resulting revenue allocated to the noble governing that territory, and the remaining 40% absorbed by the state.
In the Ashud Territory, we use Shoku Stone as a material for light-concentrating lamps. However, since Shoku Stone is currently regarded as a useless rock, there’s no interference from the state—at least for now.
If the government tries to intervene, I’ll mobilize the temple to block them.
After returning to the royal capital, I resumed my routine of attending the academy. But to be precise, I only attend classes two days a week; the rest of the time is spent on my own endeavors.
Currently, my level is 460, and my Conversion skill has reached Level 9.
At Conversion Level 8, I learned Life Conversion, which allows me to heal any injury or illness as long as the target isn’t dead.
Previously, I used material conversion to create medicines to treat illnesses. Now, I can directly heal ailments.
At Conversion Level 9, I unlocked a skill called Familiar Conversion.
I’ve already tested this ability by turning Ben and Charmy into familiars. Let me summarize the results:
First, upon becoming familiars, their ranks increased, and their blessings evolved. Ben and Charmy ranked up from S to SS during the conversion.
Officially, Rank SS is said not to exist, but I’ve turned several people close to me into familiars, resulting in over a dozen Rank SS individuals. These people not only achieved Rank SS but also became devout followers of Deuro.
Additionally, I can distribute portions of my Life, Stamina, and Mana to my familiars.
Since my stats are beyond excessive, sharing tens of thousands of points with Ben and Charmy barely makes a dent in my reserves. However, distributing to all the Rank SS individuals would be cumbersome, so I’ll only do it when necessary.
Sharing stats also enhances attributes not directly reflected in numerical stats, such as attack power. For example, after I allocated 20,000 points of Life and 10,000 points each to other stats, Ben’s attack power surged drastically. Similarly, when I gave Charmy 20,000 points of Mana and 10,000 points each to the other stats, her magic attack and healing power improved significantly.
From this, I concluded that Familiar Conversion not only provides a rank-up and blessing evolution but also allows for further enhancement through stat sharing.
Additionally, I’ve confirmed that the allocated stats can be reclaimed if needed.
Today, I’ve come to the outskirts of the royal capital to try converting a monster into a familiar.
Unlike the Ixstan Great Forest in the south of the Ashud Territory, there aren’t any particularly powerful monsters here—level 100 is the upper limit.
This makes it a good place to practice converting monsters into familiars.
“Listen, Ben. Don’t kill the monsters—just capture them.”
“I know that.”
His confident expression makes me more worried than reassured.
“There’s a monster over there,” Charmy said.
Using mana manipulation, she scouted the surrounding area for monsters. It’s a skill useful for detection and spotting traps.
“It’s over there. Looks like a horse-like beast.”
– Earth Horse: A horse-shaped monster, Level 70. It’s fast, with high power and stamina. A herbivore by nature, it’s usually docile but becomes uncontrollable when it feels threatened. It has no apparent weaknesses.
“Alright, let’s go with that one. Make sure it doesn’t escape—get into position.”
“Got it.”
“Understood.”
I’m accompanied by Captain Persina and four temple knights. All five of them have surpassed level 400 and naturally ranked up. Of course, they’re devout followers of Deuro.
“Flash!”
Charmy used her magic to blind the Earth Horse. She’s now able to cast spells without chanting.
I told her that gratitude to false divine beings is unnecessary, and chanting isn’t required for spell activation. As a result, most Deuro believers can now use magic without chanting, making their spells faster to cast and more effective in battle.
Blinded and panicked, the Earth Horse thrashed about like a wild stallion, but Ben leaped at it.
“Calm down already!”
Wrapping his arms around its thick neck, he pinned the creature with ease. That’s the strength of someone over level 450.
I approached the Earth Horse and placed my hand on its body.
—Familiar Conversion.
The Earth Horse neighed loudly, then stopped thrashing as its confusion dissipated.

“All done?”
“Yeah, it worked. It’s now a familiar.”
Ben slowly released the Earth Horse.
The information displayed changed. Unlike humans, monsters don’t seem to have ranks or blessings. Additionally, since it lacks a name, perhaps assigning one would display it.
“From now on, you’ll be called Earth.”
The Earth Horse neighed happily.
To ensure it would obey, I tested a few commands. While it couldn’t communicate via telepathy like Ben or Charmy, it understood my words clearly, and it could express basic feelings like yes, no, dislike, or joy.
“You can even convert monsters into familiars?”
Captain Persina and the temple knights were astonished.
“Once converted, I can sense their emotions and intentions to some degree.”
“Incredible… As expected of Lord Toma!”
This will make it easier to monitor the three archbishops of the Catriais faction.
I started converting insect-type and bird-type monsters in the area into familiars.
For insects, I focused on smaller ones, including mosquitoes, and sent them to the Catriais Holy Kingdom through the dark network of the Bayerline Duchy.
In the holy city, these familiars were discreetly released.
Grandfather has returned from the castle. I had been summoned by the king, but since I was quite busy, I asked him to go in my place.
“The His Majesty seems to have overindulged in drinking again.”
“Has he fallen ill again…?”
“Honestly, that man…”
The king has a weak liver but loves to drink. Despite everyone, including myself, trying to stop him, he guzzles alcohol without restraint.
A year and a half ago, he fell ill, and I was called in. He doesn’t seem to learn anything when it comes to drinking.
“After consulting with Her Majesty the Queen, we’ve decided not to provide treatment this time.”
“Is that really okay?”
“It’s fine. Even if we treat him, he’ll just overdrink and repeat the same thing.”
“But, as a king, he’s reasonably competent, isn’t he?”
“Yes, his ability to mediate and manage is quite high. That said, we can’t keep calling you, Toma, every time this happens. Besides, Prince Reinhardt will come of age next year. It’s about time for him to decide on the next king. This is a good opportunity to press that issue.”
The leading candidates for the next king are the First Prince, the Seventh Prince, and the Fourth Princess. Needless to say, the Seventh Prince is Reinhardt.
The First Prince, Ehrenfried, is the Queen’s son and the strongest contender, but the faction supporting Reinhardt is also gaining momentum.
From the outside, it looks like Reinhardt and I are close. If he’s close to me, people assume the temple will side with Reinhardt. I really wish they wouldn’t involve me in their political struggles, but Grandfather says my position is extremely important to this country.
“Recently, I’ve been getting along well with Her Majesty the Queen too.”
Since installing a refrigerator in the Queen’s chambers, I’ve been invited to tea parties there quite often.
“And I’m acquainted with Ehrenfried as well.”
Ehrenfried is always present at the Queen’s tea parties. It’s clearly an attempt to showcase a positive relationship between me and Ehrenfried.
Ehrenfried is, how should I put it, a difficult person to pin down. Perhaps it’s because of his upbringing, but he has a very soft, gentle demeanor.
In peacetime, Ehrenfried might make a fine king, but in wartime, he seems a bit unreliable.
