Chapter 1

The Reclusive Dungeon Streamer

The Homeless Camper Wants to Live Leisurely in a Dungeon ~Even Dangerous Deep-Layer Monsters Are Just Ingredients to Me~

Sizzle…

The sound of meat sizzling as it cooks, the overflowing juice, and the savory aroma of the fat browning—all the signs of deliciousness. The beautiful grill marks formed by quickly searing the meat at high heat.

After searing both sides quickly at high temperature, immediately wrap the meat in aluminum foil and let it rest for a few minutes. This allows the residual heat to cook the meat thoroughly and seal in the juices.

“Alright, the Dragon Steak is ready!”

Hoo, that looks amazing! A lunchtime food bomb, huh? @Moon Knight”

Shouldn’t be watching this before eating, my stomach’s growling. @TanTan Tanuki’s Gold

Damn, it looks so good! I’d love to try just one bite! @†Passing Camper†

A text appears in the air from the metal bracelet on my left arm. The spherical drone cameras floating around me are streaming both video and voice, and the comments from viewers are being displayed in mid-air.

Heh heh, everyone’s probably jealous watching the Dragon Steak I made. Now, let’s dig in before it gets cold.

“Ahhh, it’s so good! As soon as I bite, the juices explode in my mouth, and the meat’s flavor spreads all over. It’s so tender it melts on my tongue! Yup, the Black Dragon meat is hands-down the best among dragon meats!”

Ughhh, please! Everyone in the dungeon, share some of that meat with me! @Moon Knight

You’re still eating delicious stuff, huh? Your cooking’s gotten a lot more elaborate compared to before. @†Passing Camper†

“Well, of course, I use dragon fat instead of beef fat when cooking. With meat this good, using any other fat would ruin the taste. And the trick is to season with salt and pepper just before cooking, and be generous with it.”

No, it’s not the cooking method, it’s about the Black Dragon meat! @Moon Knight

I’ve always wanted to try Black Dragon meat at least once… @TanTan Tanuki’s Gold

Wait, did you just casually mention Black Dragon meat!?

Oh, this is a rare sight—a new viewer! Haven’t seen anyone new in a while. @TanTan Tanuki’s Gold

True, though with this kind of content, it’s strange that not more people are watching… @Moon Knight

Of course, you’d rather watch a cute girl on stream than a weird guy with a beard eating. @†Passing Camper†

Looks like we’ve got some new viewers today, which is rare.

I agree with the regulars. Even I’d rather watch a cute girl stream.

Why does this camper have such a cringy username… and wait, Black Dragon? Isn’t that a monster that only appears deep in dungeons? If you’re trolling, at least use something like a Red Dragon or something more believable.

I get what you’re saying, but this is the real deal. @Moon Knight

I had the same reaction when I first saw this stream. It brings back memories… @†Passing Camper†

“Well, whether you believe it or not, this is real Black Dragon meat. Look, it’s darker than regular meat. Even though it’s darker, it’s even tastier than the bright red meat of the Red Dragon. This dungeon is really something. Anyway, it was delicious. Thanks for the meal!”

I finish off the large Dragon Steak and react to the comments.

I don’t usually respond to comments, but I’m happy when new viewers show up. Though, as usual, I’m just using casual language and not being overly friendly in my replies. I don’t even edit the videos after streaming or think about titles for them.

This is probably why my streams aren’t that popular. But honestly, I didn’t start streaming to get famous or make money, so I don’t really care.

“Alright, what should I do this afternoon? Oh, I’m out of eggs. The Cockatrice should be around floor 35. I’m running low on Cockatrice meat too, so I might go hunting.”

Wait, are you serious? Cockatrice eggs, as in the high-end Cockatrice eggs? Why does this guy talk about it like he’s just running to the store for eggs?

I remember having the same reaction when I first heard that too. Haha. @†Passing Camper†

Seriously, it doesn’t make sense when you think about it… but when someone reacts normally like that, it’s kind of comforting. @WAKABA

“Hey, WAKABA! Long time no see. Seems like a lot of people are tuning in today—11 viewers!”

“…Now they’re saying that 11 people is a lot? If you’re a famous dungeon streamer, tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands is the norm. What’s up with this streamer?”

“I totally get how you feel, but please just watch a little longer. You’ll probably see something interesting. @TanTan Tanuki’s Gold”

“Hey, Mr. Bearded Daruma, long time no see. Your beard is as impressive as ever! If you just took a little more care with your grooming, I think you’d become more popular and get more attention… @WAKABA”

WAKABA is one of my oldest viewers, someone who has been supporting my stream since I started.

She… well, I’ve never actually met her, so I don’t even know if she’s really a woman, but she and the other campers have really helped me out. If I hadn’t gotten all the advice from the viewers before, I’d probably be dead by now.

“Well, popularity isn’t that important. And since I’m not around people much here, there’s no need to worry about my appearance at all.”

The name “Bearded Daruma” is my streaming handle. My beard grows really fast, and if I don’t shave every day, it’ll quickly get as messy as it is now.

Also, I haven’t cut my hair recently, so I really do look like a bearded Daruma. On top of that, my clothes are all ragged, and I’m wearing handmade armor made from monster materials, so I look like some barbarian from ancient times.

This whole stream started when I couldn’t handle the loneliness of living in a dungeon, so I started streaming as a way to pass the time. I don’t want too many viewers because if I get too much attention, people might point out that I live in a dungeon, so I’m fine with just a few regulars.

“Alright, guess I’ll head out for a bit.”

I pick up a weapon I made from monster materials, just like my armor, and leave my home, which is a cave I dug in the dungeon’s safe zone—an area without monsters.

I have no home outside the dungeon. I’ve made my living space and fields inside the dungeon. For now, no one should be coming to this floor, so I’m able to do this.

I jog lightly to the giant gate. This gate, called a “portal,” allows you to instantly warp to any floor you’ve visited before if you concentrate on where you want to go. This dungeon really is beyond human comprehension.

“I still don’t get how this system works…”

The dungeon, which was once just a fantasy creation, suddenly appeared in the real world several decades ago. Naturally, there was chaos at first, but now, with legal systems in place, a new profession has emerged—explorers who search the dungeon for materials and items from unknown monsters.

Recently, a new type of streamer, the “Dungeon Streamer,” has appeared, someone who films and streams their dungeon explorations. Of course, it’s extremely dangerous in there, and you could lose your life at any time.

However, the things you can bring back from the dungeon have captivated people around the world—energy resources powered by magic stones, the most exquisite ingredients beyond even the finest food, and, above all, magical items with mysterious powers.

The dungeon has an allure that can change someone’s life. …Well, speaking for myself, it wasn’t the allure that brought me into the dungeon. I lost everything and, in my despair, entered the dungeon half-willing to die.
