Chapter 9

When It Comes to Stakeouts, It’s All About Milk and Anpan

After My Wife Was Stolen by My Best Friend, My Beautiful Female Students Started Pressuring Me, Saying, ‘Please Think of Us As Your Wife and Hold Us Instead :

When it comes to criminal stakeouts, it’s all about milk and anpan (sweet bean buns).

Ideally, having a car would’ve been perfect, but unfortunately, I’m still a minor and don’t have a driver’s license. So, I rented a nearby hotel room and used a telescope to keep an eye on their love nest from the window.

The current time is 6:15 PM.

They should be coming home soon, I thought.

Just as I was thinking that, I heard a knock at the door.

“…Hmph. The rumored new detective, huh? Hope you’re actually useful,” I muttered a cheesy line as I opened the door, only to find Shiho standing there with a clearly exasperated expression.

“…What’s with that outfit?”

“What do you mean? Stakeouts are all about the police, right? I’m the type who goes all in on the look!”

“Well… I guess it’s good that you’re motivated. So? Are those two home yet?”

“Nope! They haven’t come back yet. Their car’s not here either.”

“By the way, that’s a pretty serious telescope. Isn’t that an astronomical telescope?”

“Yep! It’s one of my hobbies. I use it to peek into people’s houses.”

“I want to punch myself for even briefly thinking you used it for stargazing.”

Today was a regular weekday, but I had skipped school to focus on surveillance all day.

“So? Can you tell me again what happened this morning?”

“Hmm, well, they left the house together around 7:50 and drove off in their car.”

“How did they seem? Anything unusual?”

“Hmm… They seemed a bit cautious, like they were looking around. But it might’ve just been my imagination.”

“I see. They must be aware they’re doing something wrong. I’ll take over the watch tonight.”

“Seriously? Awesome! Then I’ll work hard observing Shiho’s… assets.”

“I’ll hit you.”

“I’m the police, you know!?”

After that exchange, Shiho handed me a bento and immediately started peering through the telescope.

“Wow, I can see really well.”

“It’d be perfect if it were see-through.”

“…You sound like a pervert. Well, I guess I wouldn’t mind seeing the teacher naked.”

“The teacher probably has a small… you know. And he’s probably super self-conscious about it.”

“You absolutely cannot say that to him, okay?”

◇10 minutes later◇

While we were chatting, the car in question finally arrived.

A man and a woman got out. That’s the teacher’s ex-wife and his so-called best friend—the cheating scumbag. They look… pretty ordinary, though…

Just as Chitose said, they were glancing around nervously as they entered the apartment building.

Maybe they’re worried the teacher might show up someday.

This is a good sign. If we can, we should mess with them a little… like putting a note in their mailbox saying, “We’re always watching.” That alone would probably mess with their heads.

If things get tense between them, that’d be perfect. Not a bad plan.

As I was thinking this, I watched them enter their apartment. There’s probably not much point in watching after this.

Just as I was about to stop, I noticed a black car pulling up in front of the building.

I casually watched as two men got out and headed straight into the building.

They walked down the hallway to the fifth floor, where the couple lived, and rang their doorbell.

But no one came out.

Then, the two men started banging on the door aggressively.

At that moment, I couldn’t help but smirk.

“…Chitose. I’m going out for a bit.”

“Huh? Where to?”

“Their place.”
