Chapter 75

The Container House

I remodeled two 40-foot containers stacked on top of each other into a two-story container house.

The upper container was offset by about a meter to create a balcony on the second floor.

Thanks to this, I was able to make a covered space in front of the entrance and found it easier to install the stairs along the wall.

The second floor is designed like a loft. Itโ€™s mostly open, with a U-shaped layout.

The hallway is about a meter wide, with spacious rooms on either side.

The largest room will be the bedroom, and the room across from it will serve as a living room or study.

The stairs are not a ladder-style but proper straight stairs with a handrailโ€”easier for Ketsue to climb!

โ€œItโ€™s nice being able to decide the layoutโ€ฆ Alright, letโ€™s make the windows larger. Near the door, Iโ€™ll place the toilet, sink, and bathroom, and set the kitchen against the wall at the back.โ€

I tapped through the layout selection screen that appeared after purchasing the container house.

The fireplace will go in the center of the left-hand wall. Since the second floor is U-shaped with an open area, itโ€™s the perfect spot. This single fireplace should comfortably heat the second floor as well.

โ€œOkay, that looks good for now.โ€

Since I can make changes or additions later, Iโ€™ll try this setup for now.

Before setting it up, I gathered furniture and belongings and stored the tent in my [Item Box].

After measuring the cleared tent area to secure space for the container house, I decided to โ€œbuildโ€ it there.

The purchased container house (already remodeled into a two-story) was stored in the [Item Box], so setting it up was easy.

โ€œAll right, itโ€™s done! From today, this is our home, Ketsue.โ€

The kitten in my arms, held there to prevent him from panicking, flattened his ears nervously.

He mustโ€™ve been startled by the sudden appearance of the two-story container house. His tail was puffed up like a raccoonโ€™s.

โ€œSorry, sorry. You were surprised, werenโ€™t you? Donโ€™t worry; itโ€™ll be more comfortable than the tent.โ€

As I gently ran my fingers through his fur to smooth it down, he finally calmed down.

Now, itโ€™s time to check out the new house.

The entrance is on the south side. As soon as you step in, the bathroom, toilet, and sink are grouped on the right.

Of course, the interior is a no-shoes zone. I took off my shoes and changed into slippers retrieved from the [Item Box].

I also cast a cleansing spell, Clean, on Ketsue before carefully placing him on the floor.

Though heโ€™d been startled earlier, he now seemed curious about the house, like a little fairy exploring his new home.

โ€œCome on, let me show you around. Follow me.โ€
โ€œMeow.โ€

The way he trotted after me was adorable.

With the open layout Iโ€™d chosen, the ceiling felt surprisingly high.

Iโ€™d expected the container house to feel cramped, but the high ceiling eliminated that sense of confinement.

The fireplace is on the left-hand wall near the center. Itโ€™s unused for now but will be invaluable come fall.

Firewood is easy to procure in this area, and since itโ€™s a type you can also cook with, Iโ€™m already excited to try it out.

(Cooking stews over the fireplace sounds amazing. Pressure cookers are convenient, but the flavor just isnโ€™t the same.)

I spread out the rug I used in the tent in front of the fireplace.

I also placed Ketsueโ€™s favorite beanbag chairโ€”the one thatโ€™s said to โ€œruin both cats and humans.โ€

At over two meters wide, itโ€™s big enough for both Ketsue and me to stretch out and relax.

The stairs leading to the second floor are directly across from the fireplace. Though a bit steep, they have handrails for safety.

I decided to use the space under the stairs as storage.

Since I could freely place windows, I opted for larger ones around the fireplace.

Being a container house, I prioritized lighting by adding as many large windows as possible.

โ€œIโ€™ll need to summon or purchase some curtains later since everythingโ€™s visible from outsideโ€ฆโ€

For now, living in a dense forest means the only ones who might see inside are magical beasts or monsters, but it still feels unsettling. Curtains are a must! Iโ€™ll use a combination of sheer lace curtains and simple, highly effective blackout curtains.

โ€œAnd over here is the kitchen! Oh wow, a three-burner magic stove! And below it, a magic oven?! Perfect for meat dishes and baking treats!โ€

Itโ€™s a shame thereโ€™s no microwave, but luckily, both Ketsue and I can use the life magic Heat, so reheating wonโ€™t be a problem.

โ€œThereโ€™s even a magic refrigerator and freezer by the wall! The Creator God really went all out on this. Much appreciated.โ€

Apparently, this โ€œrenovationโ€ was a complimentary service from the Creator God, meaning it didnโ€™t cost me any points. The kitchen and other amenities were also added as part of the package. According to the Creator God, this was a reward for how quickly the summoned heroesโ€”my cousinsโ€”were leveling up.

โ€˜As thanks for your excellent โ€œbaitโ€ work, hereโ€™s a gift! Iโ€™ve even included magic stones for power as a first-time service, but make sure to recharge them regularly, okay?โ€™

Bait work, huh? Thatโ€™sโ€ฆ not the most flattering way to put it. I frowned at the phrasing, but the free gifts were a welcome bonus.

My cousins seem to be doing exceptionally well. Theyโ€™ve already cleared mid-level dungeons, surpassed level 100, and are now testing their skills in advanced dungeons. Outside the dungeons, theyโ€™ve also been active, defeating monsters and demons under the Evil Dragonโ€™s command, and reclaiming several occupied forts and castles.

โ€œItโ€™s all thanks to their hard work. I should show some gratitude.โ€

For now, my points balance is looking pretty low, but Iโ€™ll send them some convenience store sweets as thanks later.

โ€œItโ€™s great that thereโ€™s storage space under the sink in the kitchen. Iโ€™ll store pots and pans there.โ€

Frequently used cooking tools will be hung on the wall, and Iโ€™ll line up my spice collection on the counter for easy access.

The sink has a familiar faucet, though the water supply system is a mystery. Apparently, the Creator God designed it to prevent environmental pollution.

โ€œMaybe the water system is powered by slimes? โ€ฆ Well, itโ€™s probably purifying magic stones attached somewhere.โ€

A water magic stone was embedded at the base of the faucet, meaning Iโ€™ll need to recharge it with magic periodically.

When I think about not having to pay for utilities like water, gas, or electricity, Iโ€™m happy to put my surplus magic power to good use. Fantasy worlds are the best!

โ€œAlright, letโ€™s check out the second floor next.โ€

Ketsue took the lead, climbing the stairs. The steps had anti-slip features, making them safe even for a small kitten. The Creator God really knows what theyโ€™re doing.

โ€œWhoaโ€ฆ it feels more spacious than I expected.โ€

The layout divides the floor into two rooms with a hallway in between. Thanks to the large windows, the space is bright and open.

In the southern room, I immediately placed a queen-sized bed against the wall. The loft has handrails for safety, and even with the large bed, thereโ€™s enough space left to add a closet along the wall if I want.

โ€œIn the room across from the bedroom, Iโ€™ll place a bookshelf and a sofa set.โ€

The northern room connects to the balcony. The large window makes it easy to step out, and the balcony also provides access to the roof of the container house.

โ€œUsing the roof to dry laundry would be convenient, but itโ€™s unnecessaryโ€ฆโ€

Thanks to the Clean purification magic, doing laundry isnโ€™t required. However, baths are non-negotiable for relaxation.

โ€œWell, the roof might be useful for observing the forest from above.โ€

Normally, Iโ€™d feel uneasy about being in a high, exposed place, but this house is protected by a divine barrier from the Creator God. It can deflect even a dragonโ€™s breath, so I can relax and enjoy the forest view.

The barrier also wards off monsters and provides concealment, ensuring this base stays safe. The Creator God even painted the container house in a moss-green color to blend in with the forest. At least itโ€™s not camouflage print!

โ€œMeowww!โ€

Ketsue seems to love the container house, racing up and down the stairs and exploring every room.

After arranging the study-living room on the second floor, I stretched out and looked around. Iโ€™d completed most of the setup. While there are still some missing pieces of furniture, this space is more than sufficient for everyday life.

The house is simple but prioritizes comfort, giving it a hotel-like vibe. Not bad. Honestly, it might even be better than the apartment I had back in Japan.

โ€œIโ€™ll get curtains, a closet, and a dish cabinet later, once Iโ€™ve earned more points in the dungeonโ€ฆโ€

For tonightโ€™s housewarming celebration, Iโ€™ll enjoy a steak made from Blood Bull meat and open my finest bottle of wine.

โ€œAlright! Time to fully enjoy this slow life in another world!โ€
