“Alright, shall we make about four of them?”
“…Are you sure about this? Please be careful not to overexert yourself with your magic, Rey-sama.”
“It’s fine. I’ve recovered enough that about forty shouldn’t be a problem.”
Recently, I had a thought.
If my magic power fully recovers while I sleep, why not use it all up before bed?
That way, I can maximize the use of my magic and fall asleep instantly due to magic exhaustion. Two birds, one stone.
So, this time as well, I decided to create a bunch of fields before sleeping and let the magic depletion knock me out.
“Alright, once I finish making the fields, I’m heading to bed.”
“At this hour? You’re young, yet you live such a disciplined lifestyle.”
“Rey really does fall asleep easily, doesn’t he?”
Even Fiona-sama praised me for it. This method seems effective as long as my magic reserves remain low.
After creating the fields Primilla had requested, I drifted off to sleep.
“Alright, listen up.”
“Yes.”
“First, don’t expect too much.”
“Okay.”
“By deceiving the enemy and exploiting their carelessness, you can grab a win when they let their guard down.”
“Uh, okay?”
“Also, faith can be surprisingly effective. Recently, I’ve been really into channeling magic into prayers the moment I wake up.”
“Uh… right…”
“What’s with that half-hearted response!? You’ll understand my feelings someday, Rey!”
“S-sorry.”
Since it was a rare opportunity, I decided to try summoning monsters alongside Fiona-sama.
She seemed more excited than I expected and shared her tips on summoning, but I inadvertently soured her mood.
“Sorry, Fiona-sama, but I don’t think I’ll get as into this as you. I’m not aiming for anything specific.”
“Ugh… don’t come crying to me later for comfort, you hear!?”
Wait, she was willing to comfort me?
Talking with Fiona-sama makes me forget what the concept of a demon lord even is.
“Okay, here we go!”
“You’re not asking Tokito for help with the summons?”
“She’s at work right now. Well, technically, so am I. Not slacking off or anything, though?”
“You don’t have to justify yourself to me.”
“Ah, as expected of Rey! You’re the only one who spoils me like this!”
If Primilla overheard, she’d probably scold us.
Anyway, it seems Fiona-sama is going first to demonstrate the treasure box summoning.
“I’ve infused quite a bit of magic already. Something good has to come out soon, right? Please?”
Her tone was becoming more like a plea.
Being a demon lord, she probably wouldn’t pray to a god, so who is she praying to?
Well, I wouldn’t want to pray to that goddess either.
“Now! Rey, open it!”
“Alright, alright…”
I’ve gotten used to opening treasure boxes at her request.
Normally, I wouldn’t even check the contents, but this time, I decided to have a look.
…Huh? A feather? No, several feathers glowing gold and silver, with hints of red mixed in. They seem to be imbued with a fiery aura.
“Aah! So close, yet so frustrating!”
“Fiona-sama, what is this?”
“That’s… a phoenix feather.”
This seems like an amazing item.
The name alone suggests it has effects similar to a resurrection potion.
“An item that completely restores the owner’s vitality once, no matter how grave their injuries…”
Yeah, definitely rare and precious.
But it doesn’t seem capable of reviving already deceased members of the demon lord’s army.
“Just as I planned! I still have treasure boxes ready and filled with magic!”
“Wow…”
“Today’s Fiona-sama is a little different.
Usually, she stops after one single draw, but today, she’s holding back from opening them and plans to perform consecutive draws.
‘Please!’
‘Alright, alright.’
When I opened the treasure box, there it was—another glowing feather.
‘A phoenix feather! Next!’
‘You still had more left, huh?’
I opened the next one. Another feather.
‘A phoenix feather! Ahhhh…’
I couldn’t help but wonder—does Fiona-sama attract birds, or is it the opposite, and birds hold a grudge against her?
Watching her slump in defeat made me feel nervous about trying the monster summoning myself.
‘I will avenge you, Fiona-sama.’
With that declaration, I began summoning intermediate monsters.
My magic power is 38, meaning I have three chances—just like Fiona-sama.
Here goes the first attempt.
Forest Fairy
- Magic: 40
- Strength: 8
- Dexterity: 41
- Stamina: 12
- Agility: 40
Oh, I hit the jackpot.
It looks like a small, green fairy, but it’s apparently classified as a monster.
It’s also now available in the creation menu, and since it’s an intermediate monster, it only costs 10 magic to replicate—a nice bonus.
‘A Forest Fairy! Congratulations. This little one can use magic to accelerate plant growth, making it perfect for your current objective.’
‘I see. Primilla would probably love this.’
From Fiona-sama’s explanation, it sounds not only dexterous but also ideal for farm work.
What a great start. I could just keep multiplying the Forest Fairy, but since I have two more chances, let’s go with random creation again.
‘Second attempt—another Forest Fairy.’
‘Primilla is sure to be satisfied now.’
That’s great and all, but since I’ve already created one, I could have just used the creation menu instead.
Still, might as well keep the last attempt random as well.
…Something bigger than a gargoyle emerged.
Its body is composed mainly of what looks like tree roots—definitely a plant-type monster. Could this be an Ent?
Plant Golem
- Magic: 35
- Strength: 58
- Dexterity: 55
- Stamina: 66
- Agility: 15
So, this is a golem. Despite its bulky appearance, it’s surprisingly dexterous—definitely useful.
It looks like it’ll meet Primilla’s expectations for farm work.
It’s been added to the menu, but it costs 20 magic per creation.
That means I managed to summon a high-level monster, just like the gargoyle.
‘A Plant Golem… It’s strong and surprisingly nimble, so it’ll be great for farm work. Plus, it can share its nutrients with the soil and plants. A real jackpot.’
‘Thank you.’
If it has all those abilities, it’s sure to be useful.
I’ve been incredibly lucky this time.
‘Grr… Share some of that luck with me!’
‘Well, I am the one opening the boxes for you.’
I guess it’s just the nature of her single-focus, low-probability draws that makes it tough.
‘If only Rey’s magic power was on par with mine…’
‘Are you trying to turn me into something beyond a demon lord?’
She’s probably imagining me doing all the work for her.
Well, I do enjoy creating and managing dungeons, so that wouldn’t be so bad.
…Wait, wouldn’t that be exactly like now?
‘Fields…?’
‘Yes. If we grow magic fruits, they’ll surely be useful in the battles ahead.’
‘Not food, huh?’
‘You can eat them too, though their effects will be weaker in that case.’
‘Once the battles are over, you’ll be able to grow whatever you like. That’s why I’ll ensure we see this through to the end.’
Surely, that day will come soon. My power exists for that very purpose.
As I imagined a peaceful world free from enemies, I reaffirmed my resolve to fight.
