In my room in the mansion, I put slime gel into a bucket and mixed in powdered Shojuku stone, a purple-colored mineral.
I stirred the gel well and poured it into a wooden cup. When the cup was about half full, I added a small magic stone and then filled the cup with more gel.
I waited for it to solidify, intending to flip the cup and remove the contents, but it wouldn’t come out.
I had no choice but to cut the cup in half and take the contents out.
Next, I decorated it. I created the decorations using iron with my conversion magic.
“Alright, it’s done!”
Light-Collecting Lamp: Absorbs light during the day and emits it at night.
This is a magic tool that absorbs sunlight to store magical energy (known as magic storage) and glows like a lamp at night.
Slime gel and magic stones are materials that can be obtained in dungeons, while Shojuku stone can be collected from our old mine.
Shojuku stone is purple, but it’s cloudy in color, so it can’t be used as a gem. It was previously useless, and since it wasn’t mined, there are plenty of it lying around in the mine.
When slime gel and Shojuku stone powder are mixed, it turns into a bright purple color. Once it solidifies, it becomes almost colorless and transparent, with a slight purple tint remaining.
At this stage, it has the property of absorbing light, and by incorporating a magic stone into it, it works like a battery and becomes a light-collecting lamp.
This is a very simple magic tool that anyone could make, not just me.
By the way, I can’t create the light-collecting lamp directly with conversion magic, so it has to be made by hand. However, the decorations can be made with conversion magic. The material for the decorations is iron. Unfortunately, I can’t convert precious metals. If I could convert gold or silver, I’d make money off of that alone. Also, copper takes a little more mana, but it can be converted.
I made three light-collecting lamps. One was the first I made, for my room. The other two were more luxurious, chandelier-like lamps.
After dinner, I showed the light-collecting lamps to my father and mother.
“Oh, how beautiful!”
My mother gazed at the chandelier-type light-collecting lamp in admiration.
“This doesn’t seem to use candles…?”
“Yes, this is a light-collecting lamp. This part absorbs sunlight, and at night it emits light.”
“Where did you get this from?”
“I made it.”
“You made it… well, it is you, Toma …”
Wait, why is everyone so sure I made it?
“This one is for areas where guests might go. The one for my room is over here.”
The room’s light-collecting lamp has decorations but isn’t too extravagant. The chandelier-type lamp is much more luxurious. I used a lot of glass, so it’s one of a kind.
“If we install these on the main street of the village and around the major facilities, it will be bright even at night.”
“That’s amazing. The thieves who entered the brewery did so because it was pitch dark at night, and no one could see. We’ve stationed soldiers to guard the place now, but torches require firewood, and we have to be careful not to start a fire.”
As expected of my father, he quickly grasped the purpose of the light-collecting lamp with a simple explanation.
“This could be useful! Can it be mass-produced?”
“The materials for the light-collecting lamp can all be found in the Ashud territory. But the decorations would need an expert’s craftsmanship.”
“Hm… Is Bowman unable to do this?”
“I think Bowman can do it, but it’s more of a job for an artisan or a goldsmith.”
“An artisan and a goldsmith, huh. We don’t have either in our territory.”
“Anyway, I think Bowman can make the streetlamps, so I’ll ask him to do it.”
“What about chandeliers like this?”
“That’s probably impossible. After all, only I can make the glass.”
“Then, could you make the most luxurious chandelier for the Bayerline Duke’s household as a gift?”
“Sure, I can do that.”
They say you should make use of powerful connections. The Roxfall family has already severed ties with the Lightstar family. Building a good relationship with the Bayerline Duke’s family is important. If this small gift can help, it’s a good deal.
The next day, a messenger from the Bayerline Duke’s family arrived.
Father, mother, and I waited in the entrance hall to greet the messenger.
“Th-this is… Alexander-sama!”
I had expected a very grand carriage from the Duke’s family, but it turned out that Alexander-sama, the next Duke, was the one stepping out. I had studied the family structure of the Bayerline Duke’s family, so when I heard the name Alexander, I froze up.
I was so nervous that I bowed deeply and hoped he would speak to me soon. My back was trembling from the deep bow.
When I glanced up, I noticed Alexander-sama looked very surprised and was standing frozen, seemingly in a daze. What’s going on?
“Alexander-sama, your voice…”
The elderly butler whispered to Alexander-sama, and he finally moved.
“Ah, yes… I apologize, Lord Roxfall . I’m feeling a little unwell.”
“You must be tired from your long journey. The room is simple, but please rest there.”
It seems he got car sick, as his face was pale. If he collapsed here, it could sour our relationship with the Bayerline Duke’s family. I hope everything is alright.
But why is Alexander-sama, the next Duke, acting as a messenger? He should have left that to someone lower down.
