On the first day of moving, I set up a tent inside the cave and, to make it more livable, ordered various items through summoning magic online stores. It ended up being a day of shopping and settling in.
By the second day of cave life, I had already started improving the inconvenient points from the first day, and was busy with additional shopping.
Among everything, the most urgently needed thing I realized was a toilet.
“It’s fine for now since I can still go outside, but when the rainy season really starts, I don’t want to go outside just to use the toilet.”
I remembered how hard it was when I woke up in the middle of the night to use the toilet. I didn’t have the courage to climb while holding a lantern, so I used one of the life magic spells, a lighting spell, to descend down the cliff.
Although I was reincarnated as a handsome high elf with looks that could put idols to shame, unfortunately, my body still has its needs. After being reincarnated in another world and living a camping life, I deeply felt that I was glad to be a man.
When using the toilet, you inevitably become defenseless. Even as a man, I feel uneasy, and when I think about how it would feel if I were a shy, delicate maiden, it sends a chill down my spine.
“Yeah, a toilet is important. I don’t want to make one inside the tent room, so I’ll dig through the cave to create a separate toilet room.”
The tent room is used for both sleeping and cooking, so I absolutely want to keep the toilet separate. While I’m at it, I’d like to make a bathroom, but that might be a bit too difficult.
The toilet can at least be solved by making a hole and using purification magic to clean it, but I doubt I’ll be able to find a bathtub through summoning magic online.
“If only I could find something to use as a substitute.”
As I opened the product list and searched, I found a summer limited item at the 300 yen shop: a plastic pool.
“A kiddie pool, huh…”
It’s a 1,500 yen item, so I don’t have high expectations, but at least I can sit in it with my knees stretched out.
“If I lie down in the kiddie pool, maybe I can submerge up to my shoulders…?”
I decided to give it a try and bought it. The width is 1 meter, and the depth is about 30 centimeters. It’s a bit shallow. If I curl up with my knees tucked in, I can just about submerge up to my shoulders.
“Well, it’s a kiddie pool, so it can’t be helped. I’ll use it when I really want to bathe.”
I also bought an air pump to inflate it. I can use purification magic for cleaning my body, so I’ll be able to manage for now. If I had a larger metal basin, I could have at least enjoyed a bit of a wash.
“…Well, first things first, I need a toilet.”
So, today I decided to take a break from hunting magical beasts and focus on remodeling the cave.
The cave entrance faces south, so it gets plenty of sunlight. The direction I’m digging is towards the north. I decided to dig towards the east for the toilet.
Carefully checking with my appraisal magic to make sure the rocks wouldn’t collapse, I slowly dug using earth magic. I blended magic into the earth to change it into sand, storing the debris in my item box.
I kept digging, creating a passage, and decided to make the toilet in a place between two rock walls. I created a small room and even added a window.
The window serves as both an air vent and a light source.
“I’ll just open a hole for now. A traditional Japanese-style toilet should be doable with earth magic.”
It took a bit of magic power, but I managed to create a small room that resembles a public restroom from the old days. It looked a bit plain, so I decorated the square-shaped rock window with air fresheners and other items.
I dug the hole fairly deep. By using purification magic on the waste, it will vanish immediately, so I don’t need toilet paper.
At night, a lantern is necessary for the toilet, but since I can just carry the one I already have in the room, I didn’t need to buy a new one.
I had been digging away steadily, so only about two hours had passed. My magic power will quickly recover if I eat some sweet treats and take a short break.
“Yeah, let’s finish the passage and the bath now!”
It would be better to get everything done at once, so I can focus on hunting starting tomorrow.
With that in mind, I decided to continue carving rocks with earth magic.
Two and a half hours later, a small room for the bath was completed, further east of the toilet. Since humidity was a concern, I made a window even bigger than the one in the toilet.
I leveled the ground and placed a wooden slatted mat. Although it wasn’t a bathtub but a plastic pool, I tried to make it look good by focusing on the surrounding area.
The steel rack, assembled from a joint rack I summoned from the 100 yen shop, was a big help.
At the entrance of the bath’s small room, I used a tension rod and shower curtain to create a privacy screen.
On the steel shelf, I placed towels, bath towels, a washbasin, shampoo, conditioner, and body soap. I also put a laundry box for dirty clothes and a wardrobe case for storing change of clothes on the top shelf.
I even put down a bath mat in front of the shelf.
“Yeah, looks pretty good, doesn’t it?”
Once everything was set up, it was around lunchtime, so I decided to take a break.
I returned to the main tent room and got ready to cook lunch.
“Today, I’m in the mood for garlic rice. And I really want a big steak too.”
I found some frozen garlic rice at the convenience store, so I bought it.
I could have used life magic’s heating spell to warm it up, but since I had the chance, I decided to fry it in a pan.
I spread some olive oil in the pan, aiming for that perfect, slightly crispy texture, and cooked the garlic rice, then stored it in the [Item Box] to keep it warm.
“When it comes to steak, it has to be orc meat.”
It would be a waste to use the rare high-orc meat, so I went with orc steak instead.
I seasoned it with salt and pepper and cooked it.
Since I used garlic oil, the delicious aroma filled the cave.
I used wind magic to scatter the smell, then cut the steak into bite-sized pieces and placed it on top of the garlic rice.
I drizzled steak sauce from the [Item Box] over it generously, and it was ready.
I saved the vegetables for dinner, so lunch was made purely out of desire.
“Time to eat!”
I thought convenience store frozen meals rarely let me down, and this garlic rice was no exception—it was delicious.
I had debated between this and five-vegetable fried rice, but pairing it with steak made this more of a hit.
I finished it off quickly.
“Yeah, it was good. After all, it’s better to buy convenience store frozen meals than try to make something from scratch with fried rice seasoning.”
For dessert, I enjoyed some chocolate ice cream.
The variety of ice cream was limited, but they had some popular products. There were also many seasonal and new releases, so it was fun to choose.
“…Well, now that I’ve established a base, I’ll have to earn back the money I spent.”
After the break, I decided to take a look around the area.
I needed to be extra careful about the possibility of orc or goblin nests near my base, so I made sure to scan the surroundings thoroughly.
“Now, it’s time for hunting and gathering. I’ll focus on hunting magical beasts that can be sold for a high price, and those that taste good. If I find some delicious fruit, even better.”
I decided to put off gathering wild plants and mushrooms for now.
Since I could buy salad at the convenience store, I wouldn’t be too troubled if I couldn’t gather anything.
For now, I wanted to focus on earning points to use for the summoning magic online store.
“I want to save up a bit before the rainy season starts.”
I peeked over the edge of the cliff below the cave.
It was about fifteen meters high, roughly the height of a four- to five-story building, but somehow I felt like it would be fine.
I had prepared a rope for climbing, but decided not to use it this time.
“Alright.”
With a quick jump, I leapt down.
I made sure to keep my balance, and when I was about two meters above the ground, I used wind magic to surround myself.
With the sensation of being cradled by a soft air mass, I was gently lowered to the ground.
There was no damage from the landing.
“Yeah. I can’t use flying magic, but with wind magic, I can jump from this height.”
As expected of a high elf body.
Since I’m small and delicate, I can pull off such a trick, and I was happy to think it might be useful in combat.
“Oh, I smell meat! It’s time for a fried chicken feast today.”
I detected the presence of a large bird-like magical beast and eagerly set off in that direction.
