“Alright, I’ve improved it.”
“Rey, you’re surprisingly ruthless when it comes to killing intent, huh?”
“More like I’m just a coward.”
Since I’m weak, if a dungeon is invaded and attacked, it’s the end for me.
That’s why I want to ensure that invaders are definitely converted into magic to secure more resources for the dungeon.
If my level increases, it’ll be easier for me to survive, and I’ll have more magic to use, so it’s a win-win.
“The underground demon world itself is only built up at the entrance, but even so, neither I nor Primilla have had any chance to do anything yet.”
I’d like to remodel this place as well, but for now, I want to focus on improving the independent dungeon.
As I repel invaders and make improvements over there, I’ll be able to do more.
That way, I’ll eventually transform this place into one with stronger traps, monsters, and various rooms, so it would end up being double the work.
Thanks to Pilkaya’s search abilities and the strength of the two of the Four Heavenly Kings, I can think about this leisurely.
…That means, perhaps what Fiona-sama should really be doing is aiming for the resurrection potion in that treasure chest gacha.
“Seems fine. This time it’ll burn before they can escape.”
The beastmen advancing through the oil trail were consumed by flames.
By changing it from a fireball to a fire wave, the entire passageway became engulfed in flames.
The fire wave has a wide range, but it doesn’t deal that much damage, so the beastmen won’t die from it alone.
However, it’s excellent at igniting the oil trail, and I was able to improve it so that the flames spread instantly.
“If we set up those traps everywhere, it would make fighting much easier for me.”
“…Pilkaya, you have some ruthless ideas, huh?”
“Well, I am a demon.”
Wasn’t she a spirit? Did she somehow transform into a demon along the way?
“The maze rooms are stronger than before, it seems.”
Primilla muttered as she observed the beastmen who had entered the maze.
The maze is particularly suited for beastmen. Once they step in, they rush forward, thinking they can easily break through.
And because they’re less thoughtful than other species, they end up getting lost in it.
Even if they try to force their way through, they don’t have the strength to break through the walls like the strongest warriors of the beastmen.
“Unlike last time, there are quite a few of them, but it seems like they’re all getting lost.”
If anything, the larger number is even causing some tension among them.
The beastmen have managed to progress a little through the maze, and soon enough, the poison mist trap was activated.
All the beastmen were hit by the poison, and now they should collapse within the maze if left alone.
“There’s no mercy, huh. As expected of you, Rey-sama.”
“Well, those Basilisk are acting on their own, I didn’t give them any orders…”
It was fine to just leave them alone, but unfortunately, the beastmen ran into Basilisk .
As a result, they were hit with the basilisk’s poison and, like before, turned to stone while chasing after the Basilisk .
They fell one after another, being ravaged by two types of poison—one from the Basilisk and one from the traps—inside their stone forms.
“Ah, my level went up. The menu… it’s increased.”
I’m starting to understand a bit now.
My level increases by earning experience points, and there are probably three ways to gain that experience:
- Using Dungeon Master skills.
- Repelling invaders.
- Monsters fighting invaders.
The experience from the last method is minimal, just better than nothing, but the point is to invite invaders and grow the dungeon.
And the menu also grows as my level increases, or when traps or rooms I’ve created are effective.
Character Status: Izumi Reiko
Magic: 33
Strength: 15
Skill: 23
Endurance: 22
Agility: 17
My magic is now higher than a goblin mage’s.
Though, since I can’t use magic, I’d probably be instantly killed in a fight.
New Menu Items:
- Trap: Magic Cost 5
- Shop Creation: Magic Cost 10
The trap is fine, a straightforward trap. The real issue is the shop.
…Am I supposed to be running a shop inside the dungeon? Even if I earn money, there’s no way to use it.
“Rey, what’s wrong? You look like you’re thinking hard about something.”
“Well… I’ve gained new abilities.”
“I see. That’s wonderful. But then why do you look so troubled?”
“It’s the menu for creating a shop, huh… but how am I supposed to use something like this?”
Upon hearing my words, Fiona-sama fell silent.
She had an indescribable expression. I’m sure I must have looked the same way just earlier.
“…When the Demon Lord’s army is rebuilt, maybe we could have everyone use it?”
Pilkaya suggested that idea, but of course, it would probably be used for that purpose.
At least, for now, it doesn’t seem like there’s any practical use for it.
“Since it’s a shop, we’d be selling things. But as demons, even if we act as shopkeepers, other races wouldn’t use it.”
Yeah, that’s true. Primilla ’s right.
This facility is meant for us, and I should consider creating it once the number of people increases, and I have more magic to spare.
“But the trap is intriguing. Fiona-sama, I’m going to set up a trap.”
“In that case, I will accompany you as a guard.”
“Alright, alright. Both of you, be careful!”
Waved off by Fiona-sama, who seemed carefree, Primilla and I set off to install more traps.
I’ll also recreate the oil trail. It’s a useful path, but after using it a few times, it just becomes an ordinary path.
It’s important to maintain things like this when there are no invaders around.
“Alright, it’s done.”
“I see… you plan to drop them in a pitfall after they let their guard down passing through the maze. As expected of you, Rey-sama. That’s ruthless.”
Is it okay to take that as a compliment?
The intention is exactly what Primilla just said. No beastmen have made it through the maze yet, but eventually, it will be cleared.
So, after the beastmen get past the maze and let their guard down, they’ll fall into the pitfall… though it turned out differently than I expected.
“It’s too shallow.”
“It’s not deep enough to kill them from the fall.”
I see, that’s what it looks like.
The pitfall is deep enough, but not deep enough to cause death from the fall.
The invaders might have trouble climbing out, but it won’t work on flying opponents.
“…Should I place a rock above it?”
“Considering the size of the hole, the rock won’t fall into it, but it should be able to trap them.”
“Then let’s set up a rolling rock above it.”
This time, they’ll get caught in the hole, so the rock won’t roll down.
…Alright, this is done. I set up the new trap, but the only thing that needs replenishing is the oil trail, so I still have magic left.
What should I do? I’m getting curious. Should I try something now while I have the extra magic?
Later…
“So, suddenly a shop appeared near the entrance?”
“Sorry, I couldn’t resist my curiosity…”
“You don’t need to apologize. It’s important to try things out.”
After finishing my work, I returned to Fiona-sama and reported that I had created a shop.
Since I’m sharing Pilkaya’s vision anyway, it’s obvious what I’ve done.
“But really, it was just a regular shop. And since there’s nothing to sell, we’ll have to provide the goods ourselves.”
“Thanks to the Demon Lord wasting magic on treasure chests, we won’t have any trouble with the stock.”
“That’s right! Finally, the time has come for my treasure chest to shine!”
That was probably sarcasm from Primilla .
But Fiona-sama didn’t catch on. As expected of a Demon Lord, she’s not easily shaken by a half-hearted jab.
Still, to think there’s not even any merchandise… I had secretly hoped a shopkeeper might come with it, but that wasn’t the case at all.
There’s no use for it, and it just seems suspicious, so I’ve enclosed it in a wall for now. I wonder if there will ever come a day when I’ll use this shop…
