Ben and I explored the dungeon smoothly. Along the way, we encountered several explorers, but they were all friendly people.
When we exited the dungeon, the soldiers greeted us with beaming smiles, glad that we were safe. The people of the Ashwood territory are truly kind-hearted. I’m really glad I came to Ashwood.
Ben and I headed to the riverbank near the mansion. Since the dungeon was discovered, several permanent dissection tables had been set up here, making it convenient for explorers to use.
As we were dissecting the monsters we had hunted, other explorers arrived.
“Oh, you guys are dissecting too? You’ve caught quite a good haul.”
It was Cosmi-san, an explorer we had met in the dungeon. He was 32 years old, rank B, with the attribute of ‘battle’ and the blessing of ‘warrior of the battlefield,’ at level 220. He wielded a battle axe. Despite his tough appearance, he was very approachable and a good person. But level 220, huh? That’s as high as our soldiers.
The Roxfall Knight House is famous for its martial prowess, with soldiers averaging level 230. During the winter, they often go into the mountains for culling (monster thinning), and their levels rise rapidly.
Since I accompany my father, whose level has surpassed 320, on hunts, it’s no wonder that our levels increase quickly.
“You’re quite the big shot, Cosmi-san.”
“This is nothing. Doesn’t even count as big-time,” he said, though he seemed pleased, puffing out his chest a bit.
Cosmi-san was teamed up with four others around his age to explore the dungeon. The monster he had hunted was a Red Boar, a magical beast. Ben had drooled when he remembered that smoking its meat makes it delicious.
“The skin of the Red Boar is resistant to fire, so it sells for a good price.”
“Where in the dungeon can you find the Red Boar?”
“It’s on the third floor. But it’s dangerous, so don’t go up there, alright?”
““Yes””
We had only explored the first floor, but Cosmi-san had hunted on the third floor. The skin of the Red Boar is more valuable than its meat, as it is resistant to fire, as Cosmi-san had explained. The skin of a Red Boar, about two meters long, can sell for 2000G, while the meat is only worth about 500G.
The currency of the Kuldia Kingdom includes 1G copper coins, 10G copper coins, 50G copper coins, 100G iron coins, 500G iron coins, 1000G copper coins, 5000G copper coins, 10,000G silver coins, 50,000G silver coins, and 100,000G gold coins.
In my perspective, 1G is roughly equivalent to 10 yen.
I sell the horse ale I make in 18-liter barrels to merchants at 6000G. Recently, demand for it has been quite high, and production can’t keep up.
Thus, the half of the horse ale made by Jin and Lam, which was originally meant for villagers at a cheap price, is now being sold. Half is still kept affordable for the villagers.
I label my horse ale as premium, Jin and Lam’s as high-grade or low-grade depending on quality. Premium is sold for 6000G, high-grade for 4000G, and low-grade for 3000G.
Generally, a barrel of wine circulates for around 2500G to 3500G, so low-grade ale is comparable. However, fine wine costs over 10,000G, making my premium ale cheaper.
The alcohol content of wine is around 8-15%, while my horse ale has 20% for low-grade, 30% for high-grade, and 55% for premium.
Anyway, after finishing the dissection, Ben and I took the materials to the merchant. Since Ben was going to eat the meat, I decided to take it back to the mansion.
“There are five rabbit pelts here.”
There are slimes in the first floor of the dungeon, but they don’t sell, so I brought rabbit pelts instead.
“These are 200G each, so that makes 1000G for five.”
“Is this okay with you, Ben?”
“I’m fine with it.”
“Wait a second—”
From above us, a voice interrupted. It was Cosmi-san.
“If these pelts are in that good of a condition, they should be worth 400G each. If you keep this up, you’re going to get a bad reputation.”
“This is Cosmi-sama. Hah, I can’t win. I understand, I’ll take them for 400G each, five for 2000G. Is that good?”
“Yeah. Just make sure you give proper prices from now on.”
It seems like we had been taken advantage of by the merchant. After receiving 2000G, I split it with Ben.
“Thanks, Cosmi-san.”
“Thanks, old man.”
“Yeah. Next time, buy from the merchant at the corner, not this one. His mouth is bad, but he won’t try to rip you off.”
“Yes, we’ll do that. Thanks a lot.”
I understood that the prices the merchant offers differ depending on the merchant. It was a valuable lesson.
