Chapter 6

Selling potions to the town's adventurer's guild

So, I set a big goal for myself for Seras’ sake, but…

“…Well, more importantly right now…”

Growl…

A loud rumbling came from my stomach, and I muttered to myself while clutching it.

“Ahh, I’m so hungry…”

As I mentioned earlier, I don’t have a single maid or servant to take care of me.

That means I have to handle everything on my own, including preparing my meals.

It’s fine, I suppose, to expect an eleven-year-old kid to manage their own daily tasks, but that also means I need money to live independently.

However, my lousy father only gives me a ridiculously small allowance every month. He smugly tells me to enjoy my “freedom” living on that meager amount.

No matter how hard I try to budget, that miserly allowance is never enough. That bastard has no intention of letting me live decently.

Haha, well, unfortunately for him…

“Hmm, I’m getting really hungry now… Alright, let’s do the usual – I’ll go work a part-time job and then get some food.”

Yeah, I have a way to make some money, so things won’t go exactly as he planned.

With that thought, I grabbed my bag, slung it over my shoulder, and headed out of the hut towards the adventurer’s guild in town.

Before long…

I was walking through town with my bag strapped to my back. My destination was the adventurer’s guild in the center of town.

“Hello!”

“Hm? Ah, it’s you, Seras. Welcome!”

I walked into the adventurer’s guild and greeted the receptionist. She gave me a warm smile as she responded.

“Is Branch Manager Douglas in today?”

“Yes, he’s here, of course. Need to talk to him? I’ll call him right now.”

“Thanks!”

The receptionist headed to a room in the back. After a short wait, a large man emerged from the room.

“Hey there, Seras! It’s been a week! What brings you in today?”

The big man grinned and laughed heartily as he greeted me.

This is Douglas, the branch manager. He was once a renowned adventurer with impressive skills and is now the head of this town’s adventurers’ guild.

“Long time no see, Branch Manager. I’m here to sell potions again, just like always.”

“Oh, is that so! Thanks as always, kid! Could you let me check the potions you brought?”

“Sure. Here you go – everything’s in this bag, so please take a look.”

I handed the bag I was carrying to Douglas. Inside were about 30 to 40 potions that I’d crafted myself.

“Alright, got it! I’ll start checking them right away, so just wait a moment!”

“Sure, got it.”

With that, I took a seat in the adventurer’s guild’s waiting area until Douglas called me back.

Over the past year, I’ve not only been practicing my swordsmanship daily but also working as an adventurer. I started as an adventurer partly for the training, but mostly to earn money.

In Sword Fantasia, there’s a unique system known as “Alchemy.”

In Sword Fantasia, you can defeat enemies to obtain items, pick them up in dungeons or around town, or buy them. By combining these items, you can create entirely new items – that’s the system called “Alchemy.”

The materials needed to create each item are predetermined, and as your alchemy level rises, you can make more advanced items. It’s a progressive system where the more you invest, the more you unlock.

By the way, potions can be made starting from alchemy level 1, using “slime fluids” and “herbs.”

And since potions sell for a decent price despite being easy to make, there’s a neat trick where you can farm money early in the game by continuously crafting and selling potions.

To put this into practice, I immediately obtained an adventurer’s license, bought an alchemy station from a traveling merchant, and set it up in my rundown little shack.

Since then, I’ve been spending all my free time outside of self-training and magic practice by taking on slime extermination requests at the adventurer’s guild to gather as much slime fluid as possible.

As for herbs, I could just buy them from the merchants. Using those herbs and slime fluids, I’d make a ton of potions, which I’d then sell back to the adventurer’s guild to supplement my living expenses.

(Defeating slimes to farm experience while making money from potions – it’s a win-win.)

Thanks to the knowledge I gained from immersing myself in this game before my reincarnation, I’ve been able to avoid a poor lifestyle and make enough money every day to live comfortably.

For some reason, I’ve reincarnated as a totally vile boss character in a dark fantasy-style eroge called Sword Fantasia. That boss’s name is Seras Alfeid. Seras is a human who joins forces with the final boss, the Demon King, to try to wipe out all of humanity. In the story, he mercilessly slaughters people who beg for their lives, and subjects women to such horrific abuse that their minds break—a truly revolting, vile character. He’s also one of the toughest bosses in the game, and I remember getting a game over countless times while trying to beat him. I was so frustrated at the time from having to redo that fight over and over because of this awful character, Seras. And in the end, after Seras loses to the protagonist, he’s brutally tortured and then executed… Wait, hold on! Does that mean I’ll be tortured and executed in the end if I stay on this path!? Well, maybe this is a small silver lining, but I reincarnated way before the game’s storyline starts, during Seras’s childhood—meaning, before he becomes this horrible villain. "Okay… if that’s the case, I’ll just have to live earnestly and make sure I don’t fall to darkness!" If I do that, I should be able to escape this terrible fate of being tortured and executed, right? Plus, I have all my knowledge of Sword Fantasia. With that, I’ll never have to worry about money. And since I’m the strongest boss character in the story, if I train my body well from a young age, I’m guaranteed to become the strongest someday. …Wait, hold on. Doesn’t this mean that if I use my game knowledge well, I can live a pretty easy life?
