Using water and fire magic to defeat magical beasts is quite efficient. Thanks to being reincarnated as a high elf with a lot of magical power, I’m managing to take them down comfortably without running out of MP.
“I’m really hungry…?”
Is this the only downside of being a magician? This body has terrible fuel efficiency. It’s only been a little over two hours since we left the campsite, and my stomach is already growling sadly from hunger.
“Was bread and soup not enough? Well, I guess I’ll eat something during the break.”
Since I’ve traveled about 8 kilometers by my estimate, I decided to have a snack. I took out the tent from my Item Box and set it up.
“I feel a bit guilty relying on the tent’s barrier just for a break, but I don’t want to be attacked by something like that giant bird this morning…”
Thanks to the protection of the Creator God, I shouldn’t get hurt, but I definitely don’t want to be attacked by such a huge monster.
“I don’t even have confidence in my current attack power to take it down… If I learn some powerful attack magic, I’ll roast it.”
If it’s good meat, I’d like to taste it a bit.
If I use fire magic to roast it, the ingredients would be ruined, so it would be better if I could somehow defeat it using water or wind magic.
For materials from a bird-like magical beast, I suppose feathers and beaks would work. And there’s the meat. A magical beast of that size would surely have a lot to eat.
“…Now that I’m talking about meat, I really want to eat some. I remember seeing canned food at the 100 yen shop.”
I opened my status board and accessed the shop screen. I searched for food, specifically canned goods, and quickly found what I was looking for. Without hesitation, I summoned it for 100 points.
What appeared from the magic circle was a can of grilled chicken skewers.
There were two varieties: salted and sauce-flavored, and I decided to go with the sauce this time.
“Just this isn’t enough. I want a grilled chicken bowl, so I should buy some rice too.”
I added a pack of rice and a few other necessary items to my purchases.
“Now, usually, I’d quickly cook with a gas stove, but this is the perfect time to practice earth magic.”
After confirming that I was within the tent’s barrier, I cut the surrounding grass. They were probably Hime Shiba and Mana grass.
As I approached the Great Forest, I began to see more Mana grass, indicating that the source of magical power—the magic essence—was strong here.
I crouched down, pressed my hands to the ground, and concentrated. I could feel my magical power blending with the surrounding soil. Then, I visualized strongly and in detail what I wanted to create.
“It’s a bit clumsy, but it should be usable?”
While picturing concrete blocks in my mind, I solidified the soil and created a foundation on either side. It was the simplest design for a makeshift stove. I placed a large barbecue grill on top and arranged firewood.
“Fire ignite!”
Having gotten used to fire magic, adjusting the stove’s flame was easy for me.
I filled a small milk pot with water and dropped in the pack of rice. I also rolled in the raw egg I had brought along. I set my Sheera cup in an open spot to boil water for coffee.
“It’s convenient that I can use a hot water bath for cooking even without a microwave for the rice packs.”
I had brought some rice for camping, but I wanted to save it as much as possible.
I was surprised to find not only white rice but also red rice and mixed rice in retort packs during my search.
Unfortunately, there were only grilled chicken cans, but there were plenty of canned fish varieties, so I shouldn’t have any trouble with protein.
“Ah, I need to warm up the grilled chicken can too.”
I opened the can and placed it directly on the grill to heat it. A pleasant aroma wafted up, and my flat stomach was protesting.
“Alright, the rice pack is heated up. The onsen tamago (hot spring egg) looks good too.”
I served the rice in my favorite wooden bowl and poured the hot grilled chicken from the can over it, sauce and all.
Holding back my urge to dig in immediately, I cracked the onsen tamago into the bowl and sprinkled on the dried green onions I had summoned from the 100 yen shop.
“With some shichimi pepper and mayonnaise on top, the grilled chicken bowl is complete!”
I didn’t have the luxury of eating delicately with chopsticks.
I quickly mixed it with a larger spoon and shoved it into my mouth. It was simple but flavorful and delicious.
As I mixed in the egg with my spoon, the grilled chicken bowl filled my previously protesting stomach with happiness.
I devoured it eagerly, leaving not a single grain of rice behind.
“Phew… That was delicious…”
I savored my after-meal coffee in my Sheera cup.
Unlike in the morning, I added plenty of sugar and coffee creamer.
My stomach finally settled, but if I cast magic again, I’d probably be in the same state soon.
“If I remember correctly, they had some ration packs for sale, right…? Calorie bars, chocolate bars, and caramel would be good to keep on hand. There are even ramune and rock sugar for when I feel hypoglycemic. Alright, let’s buy them.”
Fortunately, I had almost 50,000 points accumulated from yesterday and today. There was no point in being stingy here. I bought about ten bottles of sports drinks for the time being.
To have some easily accessible, I just kept the calorie bars and ramune in my pockets, storing everything else in the Item Box.
“With all this prepared, I should feel a bit more secure. Still, it seems that earth magic is more convenient than I expected. A simple stove is enough for camping, but I might want to create a proper earthen oven at the base.”
I remembered a video I had watched out of boredom, where someone DIYed an earthen oven.
They baked and ate pizza in a handmade earthen oven.
I definitely want to try that.
“Now that I’ve taken care of my stomach, let’s go. I need to practice earth magic too. For the pizza!”
The goal had shifted a bit, but I didn’t mind.
Having a goal directly tied to desire made it easier to keep working hard and gave me a sense of fulfillment.
“…That said, if using magic makes you this hungry, it seems like those guys have it tough too…”
I hoped that the summoned country—was it a temple?—had proper ration packs prepared.
“…Maybe I’ll send them another email tonight.”
