First, I decided to set up the tent.
Since the camping plan was for about four nights, I prepared a family-sized, wide tent. It has enough space for three adults to lie down comfortably.
I had mentioned that if there was a tent at home, they should bring it, but even if there wasn’t, the three men could sleep in this dome-shaped tent.
I intended for Natsuki, the only girl in the group, to use the loft of the mountain cabin borrowed from a relative.
However, it turns out all three of them had one-person tents and had brought them along.
They were easy-to-use pop-up tents that they apparently favored during club training camps.
I heard that Akimi, who tends to be neurotic during training camps where everyone usually sleeps on futons laid out in the dojo, negotiated with the school to allow the use of one-person tents.
With even a thin wall of the tent providing privacy, Akimi was finally able to sleep well.
After hearing about the benefits, the other students also started using tents, it seems.
Thanks to this, using tents during training camps has become popular at the competitive sports school they all attend.
(I understand their feelings. Tents really do boost your spirits. Whether outside or even inside the house, setting one up is exciting. It feels like a secret base.)
Hearing the reasons why the three had their own tents made me chuckle, but I also deeply understood the need for a private space, even if it’s small.
Since I sent their luggage, I’m sure it will be useful during our camping.
“Alright, let’s set it up.”
Camping is more enjoyable when you stay for three nights or more, so I chose a good quality tent.
I might have blown my part-time job earnings on it, but thanks to it, I now have a comfortable base to stay at. I’m not crying.
The dome tent features a living space and is a two-room design. If I remove the inner tent and just use the flysheet, it can also serve as a tarp.
I took about thirty minutes to set it up by myself and then slowly checked the surrounding area.
“Yeah, it looks good, doesn’t it? It seems quite comfortable if I do say so myself.”
The tent is camouflaged green. It shouldn’t stand out too much in the forest or meadows.
I laid a proper groundsheet underneath the tent. Fortunately, this meadow had no stones or twigs; only soft grass was growing, so I was lucky that I didn’t have to do any leveling.
“This feels like the temperature in Japan around May. It might get chilly from midnight to morning.”
I had prepared some warm gear for spending time in the mountains. First, I laid down a floor mat, then I put down a rug. The rug is light and fluffy, and it’s pleasant to lie on.
I placed an inflatable mattress under my sleeping bag. It’s a fantastic item that inflates naturally when you open the valve. It’s just under three centimeters thick, but it allows for comfortable sleeping.
The envelope-style sleeping bag can also be unzipped to become a comforter, which is quite convenient.
For camping in the fall and winter, I would freeze unless I had a mummy-style sleeping bag, but this one is just right for this season.
“I’ll just use a stack of towels as a pillow. Should I also bring out the cot?”
I think the cot, which can be used as a bed, chair, or storage, is a versatile item. I’m glad I brought it along just in case the ground is uncomfortable to sleep on.
For now, I decided to use it for storage, placing my change of clothes, towels, and a fleece blanket for when it gets cold on it.
“Oh, I need to take out the lantern. It’s going to get dark soon.”
What I brought was a high-color LED lantern. I avoided using a gas lantern because of the fear of wildfires in the mountains, so I opted for this easy and safe option.
Since it’s battery-operated, I’ll have to buy more batteries online if they run out.
As I stared at the lantern, feeling a bit lazy, for some reason, my appraisal skill activated.
“Huh? ‘A lantern blessed by the creator god. It absorbs ambient magical energy to serve as a battery, Akimi it usable indefinitely. Indestructible’… No way.”
I hurried to check my other gear as well.
The gas stove and burner had also transformed into magical tools that require no fuel.
Even though my smartphone couldn’t pick up a signal, the downloaded game apps were usable, and it seems they were upgraded to not need charging either.
“…It’s great that I can read the e-books I had dropped. Also, since I’m here, I should take some breath Akimi photos and videos of this other world.”
I was pleased to have found means of passing the time and enjoyment. It would be nice if I could easily email my friends too.
“Oh, I can send messages through the status board. I’ll do that later.”
I exhaled and took another look at the tent’s appraisal. It mentioned that everything stored had the creator god’s blessing.
My clothes also have a self-repair feature.
Then what about the tent?
“Um, ‘A tent with the creator god’s blessing. Automatically activates invisibility and barrier spells within a ten-meter radius. It can withstand dragon breath. Indestructible, and if stored in the item box, it repairs itself’… Huh, is all my stuff overpowered?”
I wouldn’t even need to keep watch while camping; this is the best!
Even if it gets dirty, it seems like I can just store it in the item box and it will return to being shiny and new.
“If a dangerous monster shows up, I can safely barricade myself in here.”
Between being reborn as a disease-free, ageless high elf and the nature of these blessings, it seems the creator god really doesn’t want me to die.
“It seems they’ve gone to such lengths to take care of me, so I’ll make sure to live long enough to serve as food.”
I’m grateful that everything from Japan has a blessing on it. I plan to take good care of the high-quality, high-performance tools made in Japan.
Now that the bedroom is set up, I moved to the living space. I set up a folding table and an armchair and headed under the tarp.
I decided to do the cooking on the ground.
I placed the fire pit, which can double as a grill if I put a grate on it, a little distance away from the tent, and began grilling the meat and vegetables I had prepared.
To save time, I had cut all the ingredients for the first night’s barbecue, and the meat was marinated as well. I took out only one portion from the cooler. I stored the rest in the item box to prevent spoilage.
I intended to borrow water from the mountain cabin’s tap, so I didn’t bring any with me.
I had placed bottles of tea, juice, and some beer for myself in another cooler, so I decided to drink ginger ale.
I think cold beer is the best for barbecues, but I definitely don’t plan to get drunk on my first day in this other world.
“Yeah, the hormone is delicious. The thick beef tongue is also good. Let’s grill the short ribs and sausages too.”
I grilled shiitake mushrooms with mayonnaise and ate them. I wrapped the onions in aluminum foil and roasted them whole. When roasted with the skin on, the sweetness gets concentrated, Akimi them exquisite.
The state of the onions, perfectly steamed and baked, becomes a feast with just a sprinkle of salt.
“Let’s finish with grilled rice balls.”
I took plain salted rice balls and drizzled a bit of sesame oil and soy sauce on them before grilling them on the grate. The aroma is irresistible.
The slightly charred parts are crispy and especially tasty. I finished them off in no time.
“Phew, ahh… that was delicious!”
Having a barbecue alone was a bit lonely, but the meat and vegetables were great.
I was relieved that my worry about what if high elves were a race that couldn’t eat meat turned out to be unnecessary.
Cleaning up was easy.
Life magic is so convenient! The purification spell cleaned the grate and plates without detergent, Akimi them shiny and spotless.
I gathered the trash, like aluminum foil, but it turns out the item box also has a delete function, so disposing of waste was a breeze.
“Camping in this other world is too comfortable.”
