Chapter 8

“The three of them don’t seem to be injured.

Judging from the background on the screen, their treatment doesn’t seem to be bad. A clean and comfortable room is more appealing than a lavish mansion filled with gaudy decorations.

‘…So, I’ve really come back to life. No, perhaps I’ve been remade, right, Tohma?’

‘Yeah, it seems so… Am I really that different in appearance?’

‘Tohma, haven’t you looked at your own face?’

‘Well, I can’t help it. I’ve just been reborn. There aren’t any mirrors around, so I can’t check. I feel like my proportions have slightly changed, though.’

Among the three, Akimi, the calmest one, observes with his sharp eyes behind his glasses.

It’s possible that his first point of confirmation might be due to his own agitation.

‘Your basic look is Tohma, but the details are so different that it’s confusing. You were good-looking before, but now you’ve become a bit intimidatingly beautiful…?’

 Natsuki told me hesitantly.

I had been self-conscious about being small and having a feminine face, but now I’m considered beautiful?

‘Seriously…?’

‘It can’t be helped. You’re a high elf after all. But I made your appearance a bit more understated than an elf’s, so you shouldn’t stand out too much in this world!’

Fluffy little balls of fluff bounce at my ears.

When it comes to elves, I do have a certain image of beauty in mind. Blond or silver hair, and their eye colors are blue or green, always sparkling.

I know my hair is a darker color, but could my eye color have changed as well?

‘Tohma’s hair is blue-black? It looks like black mixed with navy. Sounds pretty cool and rockstar-like.’

‘Haruto…’

I feel a bit let down by Haruto’s straightforward observation.

It wasn’t black hair. When I gently hold it up to the light, it does indeed have a bluish tint.

As I droop my head,  Natsuki delivers another blow.

‘Your eyes are a deep blue. Very beautiful. I can’t see the tips of your ears because they’re hidden by your hair, though.’

‘My ears… are pointy… If they can be hidden by hair, won’t they not stand out?’

‘Since they’re beautiful, I don’t think you need to hide them.’

Natsuki tilts her head in confusion, but I catch the fluffy little ball trying to flutter away.

‘I don’t know much about this world yet, but high elves are a rare species, right?’

‘…That’s right. Elves are much fewer in number compared to humans, and high elves are even rarer. They’re considered the ancestors of elves, kind of like royalty among humans.’

‘Royalty of elves? …That sounds troublesome, so let’s just live hidden away.’

Unless it’s a natural high elf, having a hastily made body would only bring trouble.

‘Yeah. You’ll need to live hidden. There’s a danger to your life.’

‘Huh? Danger to my life?’

That’s the first I’m hearing of it.

I try to tighten my grip on the fluff ball in my hand, but before I can do anything, my cousins’ expressions change drastically.

‘Hey, wait, fluff ball, what do you mean by that?!’

‘That’s right, Tohma, aren’t you going to live with us?’

‘Explain, fluff ball.’

It seems that my cousins treat the creator god as a fluff ball, just like I do. Such is the bond of blood.

‘You brave ones were summoned to the religious nation of Shiran. It’s good that there are many devout believers, but the discrimination against demi-humans is severe there, so if a high elf were to walk around casually, they’d quickly be enslaved.’

What a dangerous country. I’ll definitely avoid it.

The fluff ball further warned that the neighboring Trenian Empire also has slavery, so caution is advised.

‘Also, in the Grand Kingdom, many nobles treat elves and beastmen as pets, so be careful, okay?’

‘Everywhere sounds dangerous. Are you suggesting I go hide in the mountains?’

‘Not the mountains, but it would help if you could stay hidden for a while deep in the great forest.’

The fluff ball crawls out of my hand and rolls over.

Kesaran Pasaran, fluffy, fluffy. I wonder if it really does bring happiness.

‘No way! Why does Tohma have to hide? It’d be fine if he stayed with us!’

‘That’s right. We’re heroes, right? If we say he’s our precious family, we should be able to keep him safe in this country!’

Natsuki and Haruto desperately plead, but the fluff ball—no, the creator god shook its head firmly.

‘No, it won’t work. The more you cherish him, the more danger he’ll be in. How can you expose Tohma’s weakness yourselves?’

‘Ah… So, that Shiran country, huh? The upper echelons there are likely to engage in such actions? Would they try to use me as bait to pressure the heroes?’

‘They’d probably be thrilled to secure you. With one elf, they could manipulate the heroes; they’d quickly capture and restrain you.’

‘That’s the worst… And, if it turns out I’m the hero’s weakness, wouldn’t the demon dragon target me too?’

‘That’s a high possibility. It’s not stupid. Right now, it’s still gathering strength, sleeping deep in the dungeon, but it could easily send its minions to harass you.’

‘Okay, got it. So, I’ll keep my appearance hidden for a while, and you guys do your best too.’

Dealing with demons is out of my league. It’s too much of a burden for a level 1 average person like me.

As I give a thumbs-up with a smile, Akimi, who had been listening silently, lets out a sigh.

He manages to calm the still excited Haruto and  Natsuki siblings while turning his gaze towards me.

‘I understand the situation. At our current level, it doesn’t seem like we can protect Tohma. I also agree that it would be better to hide our appearances and gather strength.’

‘Sorry about that. I’m too weak and can only be a hindrance, so I’ll focus on supporting you.’

‘Supporting?’

‘Yeah. I don’t have any strong attack skills, but thanks to a little trick—essentially a cheat—I can use online shopping. This world seems inconvenient, so once I gather some points, I’ll send various items to you.’

‘Wow, Tohma, that’s a cheat!’

‘Honestly, that’ll really help!’

‘How do you plan to send them?’

Looking down at the fluff ball rolling in my palm, it jumps with enthusiasm.

‘I’ve added a special transfer function to the status board! You can send items between item boxes, so make good use of it. You can exchange information in the message box too!’

‘Is this the status board? Then, I’ll send the items I have right away!’

I transfer the camping gear from the item box to each of them.

It’s easy since you just tap the recipient like with messages. It seems they received them immediately, as cheers erupted from the three. I can understand their joy; there were clothes, daily necessities, miscellaneous items, and snacks included, right?

No one would feel calm being thrown into another world in their everyday clothes.

‘Thank you, Tohma!’

‘Yeah.  Natsuki’s a girl, so it must be especially inconvenient for her. If you need anything, just send me a message, okay? You’ll need points to shop, so I can’t buy anything too expensive.’

‘Okay, got it… Even if I don’t have anything I want, I’ll still send a message!’

‘Tohma, I have lots of things I want too!’

‘You probably want food. Just hold out for a while. I’ll send you some seasonings later.’

‘Ehh… You’re being too nice to  Natsuki… It’s not fair!’

Of course, it’s only natural. My honest cousin is way cuter than the big-bodied one.
