“Being able to summon sacred beasts or divine creatures, that’s got to be some pretty rare and powerful magic, right?”
“Of course! It’s a special gift as an apology, so I went all out with this magic. After all, in this world, only the High Saintess could wield such powerful—huh?”
“‘Huh?’ is right! Isn’t this magic something essential for protecting me in this world? And you rewrote it?”
Finally, the little fluffball seemed to realize this was a problem—or maybe it’s better to just call it ‘fluffball’ instead of ‘god’ at this point! Its fuzzy body puffed up even fluffier, adding to its charm. Was it panicking? A little late for that.
“By the way, what exactly could these sacred or divine beasts you summon do?”
“They were really capable! They could create an invincible barrier, and they could use full healing magic that could cure any injury or illness… really useful summoned beasts, I think?”
“Useful indeed. Definitely the type of summons a Level 1 weakling like me would need.”
I tapped on [Summoning Magic] in the Unique Skills section of my status board.
[Summoning Magic]… transforms collected materials into points, and you can use those points to summon ‘items from Earth.’ You can only summon items suited to your level.
“Points…?”
“Uh, let’s give it a try. Just gather some grass from around your feet and convert it into points.”
Following the fluffball’s instructions, I knelt down to look at the grass. When I stared intently, the [Appraisal] skill activated. This common plant’s name seemed to be “Hime Shiba.” The description continued, saying it could be dried and used as an insect repellent if thrown into a fire. I plucked a single blade and stored it in my [Item Box] as instructed.
When I willed it, anything I touched could be sent to the subspace of the Item Box.
“Convert the gathered grass into points on your status board.”
I willed to see the contents of the Item Box, and a storage list appeared. Sure enough, the items I thought I lost in the accident were stored here. Oddly, even my cousins’ belongings were included.
“Tap on the grass folder.”
“Right, there’s an option to ‘convert to points.’ I’ll go with ‘YES’ for now.”
It didn’t feel very fantasy-like, I thought vaguely as I tapped it, and the grass image disappeared, replaced with “1P Point.” Not a promising number, but I wonder what I could summon with it?
When I tapped [Summoning Magic] on the status board, a screen similar to an online shopping site appeared. It looked really familiar, almost identical to a major e-commerce site I frequently used. Items were listed by category, and there was even a search function. It handled a wide range of items.
“Food, drinks, miscellaneous goods, books, clothing, etc.… Yeah, this is exactly like that online store. Clear enough, though.”
I tried tapping on the drinks section. A list of familiar bottled beverages appeared. I tapped on a green tea bottle I often drank, but a message popped up saying I didn’t have enough points.
“Huh…? The green tea needs 100P? I’m nowhere close.”
“It’s equivalent exchange, you know! Did you really think you’d get tea for just one blade of grass?”
“I get it, but it’s annoying hearing it from you, you fluffy creature…”
“I told you, I’m not some fluffy creature!”
I plucked more Hime Shiba absentmindedly. Pluck, pluck, pluck. This was starting to be fun. Once I’d built up a small pile of grass, I stored it all in the [Item Box]. Converting it gave me 173P points, enough to buy the green tea.
Reopening the screen, I tapped ‘summon,’ and a small magic circle appeared at my feet. In the center was a familiar bottled green tea from Japan.
“Oh… Success?”
I picked it up and appraised it; it was indeed a genuine bottle of green tea. Twisting off the cap and taking a sip, the familiar taste brought immense relief to my tense self.
(I was angry earlier about my magic being rewritten, but this isn’t a bad skill. Being able to summon items from Japan—well, not purchase them but ‘summon’—should make things easier.)
That said, I still felt uneasy without a way to protect myself.
As I stared at the fluffball, it seemed to notice my gaze and floated gently down to land on my shoulder, brushing against my cheek with a tickling, cotton-like touch.
“Pretty good magic, right? The gods of Japan exchange goods by buying the materials from this world and sending items in return.”
Did this fluffball just say ‘buy’? This isn’t real summoning—it’s just online shopping! I glared at it, and it shrank slightly as if embarrassed. Clever.
“I get that summoning magic is convenient. But if I’m left defenseless, I’ll die soon. I need some kind of protection. And healing magic? If there’s no magic, maybe a potion or some other remedy could work?”
My death would be a problem for this world. My cousins, the summoned heroes, would need me to be alive to help them defeat the Evil Dragon. So, this was a reasonable request.
“It would be bad if you died. Instead of the protection from sacred and divine beasts, I’ll strengthen my blessing on you. Let’s say… in a two-meter radius around you, I’ll grant an invisible shield that nullifies attacks from monsters and magical beasts. This will protect you from any monster attack, no matter how powerful.”
“Will it activate on its own?”
“Yes. Even if you’re asleep, think of it as a barrier that will protect you.”
Having a barrier that activates automatically, even if I’m unconscious, was reassuring. I looked at the fluffball on my shoulder, hoping it would also provide healing magic.
“As for healing magic, since you’re a High Elf, you can learn it on your own. Here’s a grimoire to help. I can’t be your tutor forever, so use this to study everything about this world.”
Guess that was too much to hope for.
Disappointing, but the grimoire seemed interesting. Thanks to the Creator’s blessing, I didn’t have to worry about attacks from monsters or magical beasts anymore, so survival seemed doable.
“I’ve also placed about 30 potions in your Item Box. Use them wisely, okay? Now, I’d like to let the summoned heroes know you’re safe…”
“Sure, should I write them a letter?”
Just saying I was alive wouldn’t convince them. While I wondered what the fluffball would do, the status screen floating in the air suddenly changed. Was this a video?
On the screen, the three cousins I’d been so worried about appeared.
“Is that… Tohma?”
“No way, seriously? It’s Tohma-nii!”
“He’s… alive…? Really…?”
It seemed to be connected in real-time.
Seeing them tear up and run towards the screen, I gave them a reassuring grin.
“Hey, looks like you guys are safe too. That’s good.”
