Chapter 14

What Lies Behind the Everyday

Side: Shou Amanohashi

The Priests seem to have gotten used to having rice and miso soup for dinner. At this rate, they might be okay with Japanese food for about half their meals.

“Is it really a dungeon?”

As we gather around the dinner table discussing the events of the day, I’m confused by the almost certain confirmation that the underground space is indeed a dungeon.

To think that we’ve returned to our daily lives only to have a dungeon involved. The only fortunate thing is that it’s mostly unrelated to me or everyone else. It’s good that we’re not the cause of it.

“I can’t say for sure if it’s the same as the one from that world. However, I believe we can assume the basic mechanisms are nearly identical, though this is just based on our current speculations.”

With Noctia, the former Demon Lord, saying this, I doubt there’s a significant mistake in it. I’ve heard since coming here that she was originally a researcher of magic and magical items.

Moreover, there’s the fact that there is magical power in this world. I thought magic didn’t exist… but it’s even possible that it was hidden all along.

“Kakeru, what’s going to happen with that dungeon?”

While I was thinking, Pritia asked me.

“Ah, they plan to seal it off for investigation. The school didn’t even know about the underground existence and was in a panic. So, it’s not good to leave a dungeon unattended, right?”

“It depends on the case. Most dungeons don’t have any issues if left alone. Rather, they’re managed with the goal of harvesting materials and items produced by the dungeon. According to Noctia’s assessment, there’s currently no danger there.”

I feel relieved by Pritia’s words. In that case, it’s probably best not to get too deeply involved in this matter.

“Kakeru, I want to investigate the dungeon so that we can send them back.”

Just when I was about to feel relieved that everything was settled, Noctia’s words caught Pritia and the others off guard, causing them to start thinking.

Could it be that this dungeon, which shouldn’t even exist, could lead to a way for Pritia and the others to return?

“That place is quite noticeable. There’s usually someone at the school on holidays.”

“It doesn’t necessarily have to be that place. If there are dungeons hidden here, we should investigate this world. We could also search for locations where facilities or dungeons that connect to the gods might appear.”

Facilities that connect to the gods? Religious facilities? I can’t outright say that there’s no mystical power in religion anymore…

“Got it. I’ll think about it.”

I’m completely at a loss. Still, I agree that an investigation is necessary. I do wonder if it’s alright for us to do this individually.

“Shall we go out for a bit? I think everyone except Filia hasn’t gone out yet.”

After dinner, I invited everyone outside.

Being cooped up at home all the time can be depressing, and I thought it would be better for them to get used to being outside little by little. After seeing Filia do better than expected earlier, I figured there wouldn’t be any major issues.

“Yeah, that sounds good, but…”

“Then it’s decided. There are some shops open at this hour. Let me show you around.”

Pritia seems a bit hesitant, but I pushed through.

They might be eager to go home quickly, but judging by Noctia’s tone, I don’t think they’ll be able to return today or tomorrow. It’s better to take their mind off things for a bit.

“Wow…”

As we step out of the house and reach the main road, Sanctina lets out an astonished voice. It’s a two-lane main road. The time is a bit late for returning home, so there are quite a few cars passing by.

I wonder what they think as they look at the town illuminated by the headlights?

Now, where should we go? A place to buy clothes would be nice, but it’s almost closing time. The large bookstore is still open. Or would a family restaurant be better?

Yeah, let’s go to a family restaurant. We just had dinner, but it would be nice to have something sweet for dessert. They have alcohol too. I didn’t drink over there, but I’m sure everyone else did.
