Chapter 1

Reincarnation of a certain programmer

How did this happen? I should explain first.

This is currently a sermon I’m giving myself to keep from losing sight of myself, as I find myself in extreme confusion.

On Earth, I was doing quite well.

Born as the eldest son into a wealthy family of former nobility and physicians, I rebelled against the path laid out by my parents and became a programmer, achieving great success.

My life can be summed up in thirty-five years.

To elaborate, I followed the rails to some extent during my childhood, but my hobby of programming play escalated, leading me to pursue studies at an American engineering university rather than a medical university in Japan.

I co-founded a company called “G Corporation” with friends I met during my university years in America.

So, G Corp became a major global corporation, poised for further advancement… or so it seemed.

And then… I died.

Ah, yes.

How did I die?

Ah, yes… that was the story at the headquarters building in America.

It was winter.

A cold day at the end of the year.

Passing through the frosted automatic doors, I was speaking to the receptionist on the ground floor with a cup of Starbucks coffee in hand.

That day, I had business with the president.

Ah, yes, that’s right.

And then…

A car crashed into the fancy mirrored ground floor. It smashed through the beautiful glass doors designed by a first-class architect.

At that moment…

For some reason, I felt it was dangerous and instinctively took cover.

What happened… I still don’t really understand.

But the man who got out of the car was shouting something.

I think it was something like, “Because of you, I lost my job!”

He had something in the car… that smell… yes, gasoline.

Ah, I see.

He ignited the scattered gasoline, causing a massive explosion.

There was no time to escape, just an instant death.

I see.

Well… if I had done something wrong, I would have been self-critical.

But I hadn’t done anything wrong.

So, I was caught up in a suicide bombing by a lunatic terrorist.

What a tragic story.

Ah, well.

So… why did I tell this story?

Well, I was actually reincarnated in another world now…

No, it’s surprising.

When I died and woke up, the first thing I saw wasn’t Jesus or the King of Hell, but my new parents.

It was confusing.

My eyes still couldn’t see… well, because I’m a baby.

Sounds are faint.

Voices, voices barely come out.

“Congratulations! Linda-sama, you’ve given birth!”

“Oh really? Then why isn’t he crying?”

“He might have amniotic fluid stuck in his stomach… I’ll pat his back a bit!”

Ouch… was my back being hit?

No, wait, is this my back?

I can’t really feel my body well.

“He’s not crying…?! Why…?!”

Persistent, don’t touch me, it’s uncomfortable.

Stop it! Don’t touch me!

“Ahh, ahh, ahhh!!!”

What came out of my mouth was something like a baby’s cry.

No, it wasn’t something like, it was a baby’s cry.

“He cried! He cried! He’s a healthy child!”

“Oh, good! Good!”

Well, that’s how it goes.

I still can’t see, so I can’t really say much, but judging from the information I hear, I thought this must be another world.

Although it’s confusing, at least I can understand the language because it’s Japanese.

Information from the surroundings.

Environmental sounds, none.

I can hear birds chirping and the sound of wind, and the creaking of a bed, but I can’t hear any computer-like noises or music.

Voices of people.

Female voice A… probably my mother.

She’s called “Linda-sama” by those around her. With the “-sama” honorific, she must be in a high position… I guess?

However, her voice sounds too young… like she’s fifteen?

Female voice B… a maid?

She’s called “Shirley” by those around her.

She used to talk to me all the time, but she hasn’t been talking to me much lately. It’s strange.

Female voice C… another maid?

I heard her being called “Sera,” but I hardly ever see her.

Male voice A… my father?

He’s called “master” by those around him. His name is unknown.

I think he’s in his twenties.

Male voice B… the steward?

He’s called “Oliver” by those around him.

It’s been about a month since I was born, but I’ve only heard his voice once or twice.

But I think he sounds middle-aged.

And finally, me…

I’m called “Exus” by those around me.

I’m called “young master” by female voice B, so I must have some kind of status.

I don’t really understand…

After realizing that I had been reincarnated as a baby, I spent time exercising.

Honestly, since I can’t even stand, I can’t do anything.

The only thing I can do is move my arms and legs, practice rolling over, and practice vocalizing.

I’m starting to see a little bit of light, so during the bright days outside, I’m working hard on vocal exercises.

I’m probably being breastfed and having my diapers changed, but I can’t see much and I still don’t understand my sense of touch very well.

I probably just let my bodily functions go since I’m a baby, but I can’t feel it, so I don’t know.

And probably around six months after birth…

“Exus… can you understand mommy?”

“Uhh.”

“Exus… why don’t you cry or laugh? Are you… a demon child?!”

My mother doubted me.

Ah, I see.

I guess so.

From what I’ve heard, I reasoned that this must be a medieval-like world.

A non-crying, eerie child must be a demon child.

But… there’s nothing funny to laugh about…

Being a baby is so boring, it’s tough on my mental health…

“…Exus! Mommy is a witch, you know! I’ll show you magic, so smile. Show mommy your smile, please!!!”

…Huh?

Magic?

Is that a thing?!

As soon as I heard those words, I suddenly got excited.

What the heck, that sounds so interesting!

You should have told me in advance!

Thinking my interest had been piqued, my mother put on a theatrical air, held out her hands, and chanted something.

It must have been a magic spell.

And then, at that moment, a glowing aura-like thing concentrated in her palms was clearly visible to my six-month-old eyes, which could barely discern some color and vague outlines.

“Pop, fire, mana add, one, output, front.”

When my mother finished chanting the spell, a ball of fire about the size of a ping pong ball appeared in front of her.

Magic…!

Magic?!

And that incantation!

It sounds so familiar!

Is it… assembly language(1)?!

1)An assembly language is a programming language that communicates with the hardware of a computer directly.

A story in which the heroine begs for the enemy's life

Reincarnated into another world! A programmer who died on Earth wakes up to find himself a baby in a fantasy world! Though it may seem like a fantasy world, magic is processed in a computer-program-like manner for some reason! Being an Earth programmer, he can manipulate spells to wield powerful magic! It's cheating! Totally OP! I see, it's a common setup. ...But there's one problem. This guy is fatally unsuited to be the protagonist.
