Chapter 2

It Seems I've Been Reincarnated

My vision is blurry.

My body isn’t moving properly.

I can only make noises like a baby.

What is happening to me? I’m sure… I was pierced through the chest by a monster and died. I remember it clearly. It wasn’t a dream or an illusion.

So why do I still have consciousness? Could it be that a great mage healed me? Is the blurry vision, the inability to move, and the voice all due to the aftereffects of the injuries?

I hear someone speaking. I can’t tell if it’s due to the injuries or not, but I can’t understand what they’re saying. As I strain to listen, I feel myself being lifted.

No, not just lifted; I’m being carried. A stunningly beautiful woman is holding me.

I have never seen anyone as beautiful in my life. Even the most renowned beauties, whether they were the daughters of wealthy merchants or popular female adventurers, seem ordinary compared to her.

Who is this woman? And how strong must she be to carry a man like me? Bewildered and confused, I glance sideways.

There’s a mirror leaning against the wall. To check my appearance, I squint my blurry eyes and look at myself in the mirror.

A small body… short arms and legs… large eyes.

I couldn’t believe it and kept closing and reopening my eyes to check the mirror again. But no matter how many times I looked, it never changed. I was unmistakably a baby.

A baby… a baby… What on earth is going on? Didn’t I die at the hands of that damn monster? Haven’t I gone to the afterlife where those monsters are?

My thoughts swirl in confusion. Even though magic was highly developed, I’ve never heard of rebirth. I tried to dismiss it as nonsense… but I felt a strange tug.

…Come to think of it, I’ve heard of such a story. I remember hearing a fairy tale about being reborn while retaining memories. I think it’s called reincarnation.

I don’t remember the details as I only heard a little about it long ago. But I do remember that the concept of reincarnation existed in that tale.

The body is different, but the personality of “me” is definitely present. I still have the memories of the twenty-five years I lived. There’s no doubt that I am me.

Rebirth… so it seems I’ve been reincarnated. There are many questions about whether I entered this body or if this body was originally mine.

However, to be honest, it doesn’t matter much to me. Regardless of the form, the fact that I, as a person, exist remains the same.

Even if I’ve displaced the original personality of this body… it still doesn’t matter. I’m not the kind of person who gets overly concerned or overly kind.

What’s important is that I, with my personality, am alive now.

With this self-assured conclusion in my mind, I finally start to feel the reality of being reincarnated.

So… I’ve been reincarnated… Joy, excitement, madness… Now, my emotions are swirling, making my heart and body tremble. I feel a tremendous desire residing in this small body. As I push out the regrets from my dying moments, madness starts to overflow.

What kind of face am I making now? Perhaps, I’m wearing a crazed smile, not typical for a baby.

But it can’t be helped. This is a chance to start life anew. It would be disrespectful not to rejoice in the opportunity given to me.

So, I express my gratitude. I thank… and live my second life according to my heart. Everything is for myself and the sword. Everything else is trivial.

Moreover, no matter what kind of world it is, I will dedicate myself to the sword. That is the meaning of my existence and what I desire from the depths of my soul.

…My heart still trembles. I don’t know when it will settle, but stirring my depths feels immensely pleasant.

Ah… this is the best… If my vocal cords were functioning, I would have been laughing endlessly.

For the first time, I see a light in my life. I don’t know if this body has talent, but it should be better than the previous me.

Thank you to whoever reincarnated me. Thank you to my existence.

And world, wait for me.

The person who was enchanted by the sword, went mad for the sword, and dedicated himself to the sword is coming.

…No one will hinder me.

This… is my story.

In a certain world, there was a man. In that world, magic had developed, and the common belief was that swordsmen wore armor and used shields. However, the swordsman the man had seen as a child was different. He wore no armor, used no shield. He faced off against monsters with nothing but a single sword. The man was captivated by that image and longed to be like him. But the man had no talent. As he grew older, he came to face reality and eventually became a swordsman who wore armor and carried a shield. One day, the man stood before a monster. All his comrades had died, and he was the only one left. In that extreme moment, the man remembered his true desire: —I want to wield the sword. He stripped off his armor and threw away his shield. Just like the figure he once saw, he faced the monster with nothing but a single sword. But in an instant, his chest was pierced, and he realized he was going to die. Frustration welled up inside him, and he wished: —In my next life, I want talent. This is the story of a man captivated by the sword, driven mad by it, and ultimately dedicating his life to it.
